just curios, what are the most capable 4thgen fighter jets now?
while 5th gen should be better than 4th gen, are the 5th gen jets mature enough to meet battled harden 4th gen jets? |

QUOTE(BorneoAlliance @ Mar 25 2015, 10:56 PM) Russian Military to Get 100 Brand New Su-34 Frontline Bombers is the su34 have similar role as the f117? just without the stealth?![]() Over 100 Su-34 strike fighters will be produced to replace Su-24 jets in service with the Russian military, said Vladimir Mikhailov, former commander-in-chief of the Russian Air Force. "This year the [Novosibirsk] aircraft factory must deliver 16 Su-34 frontline bombers," Mikhailov said, adding the factory is ready to exceed the production target. "Three aircraft will be delivered soon," said the director of the Moscow-based United Aircraft Corporation's Military Aviation Programs Directorate. Mikhailov described the aircraft as solid, sound and able to cover long distances with refueling. "In other words, it meets all the requirements for the frontline bomber," he said. The Su-34, based on the Su-27 fighter, is fitted with twin AL-31MF afterburner turbojet engines and can carry a payload of up to eight tons of precision-guided weapons over 2,500 miles. The aircraft will eventually replace all the Su-24 strike aircraft in service with the Russian Air Force and Navy. ![]() http://sputniknews.com/military/20150325/1019992258.html |

QUOTE(Frozen_Sun @ Mar 26 2015, 03:28 PM) Quite useful for urban combat......last ditch defense after enemy lands and... RSAF and RSN decimated so wouldn't investment in more aerial combat vehicle and ship to ensure the survivalbility of both RSAF and RSN more important? given the local terrain and it's urban constructed, movement and effectiveness of tank surely is compromised? as a result, they will probably need more resources to support the tank, thus wasting even more in other area? i thinks its more of an ego and feel good factor that entices them to get the leopard... what you guys think? thpace Yinchet |

QUOTE(Frozen_Sun @ Mar 26 2015, 03:44 PM) Actually, tanks are relatively cheap compared to ships and planes. Singapore spends much more for armaments for its air force and navy. given the strength and effectiveness of all SEA country, i doubt any of the country is capable of mounting a large scale invasion nor mount any effective offensive operation. therefore most forces and equipment are merely used as a deterent/leveraging/ and defensive purpose.Tanks may not be able to move freely in urban settings, but it could work as mobile direct-fire artillery. Without tanks, infantry can get massacred in cities, just with machine guns placed on windows. With tanks, these machine guns can be obliterated, but infantry must return the favor by eliminating AT teams So in urban combat....infantry is king, but tanks are still essential for cover and direct fire supports and taking in your point of view, sg would actually be the one with machine gun and AT teams to decimate incoming forces. and with cooperation within most SEA country, surely MAS/INDON will be help SG, thus further limiting the functions and roles of tank. |
