user posted image

A Moroccan F-16 warplane taking part in the Saudi Arabian-led coalition fighting in Yemen went missing on Sunday, the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces said in a statement.

"One of the F-16s of the Royal Armed Force (FAR) made at the disposal of the coalition led by Saudi Arabia to restore the legitimacy in Yemen went missing on Sunday at 6 pm local time," FAR's statement carried by the Moroccan state news agency MAP said.

The pilot of a second jet in the same squadron could not see if the pilot had ejected, it said. An investigation is under way, it added.

Chinese Navy vessels entering the Black sea for Russia visit

user posted image
PLAN Type 054A frigate Linyi is escorted by Turkish coast guard boats as she and her sister ship the Weifang transits the Bosphorus strait on route to the Black sea

Two People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) guided missile frigates entered the Black Sea on Monday in a first for the PLAN, according to photos of the ships crossing the Bosporus Strait.

The pair is bound for the Russian naval base at Novorossiysk ahead of a planned visit from Chinese president Xi Jinping to Moscow to commemorate the end of World War II in Europe , according to Russian state media reports.

The ships will arrive at Novorossiysk by May 9, according to press reports.

Last week, Chinese officials said the pair of 4,000-ton Type 54A Jiangkai II frigates — Linyi (574) and Weifang (550) — would hold exercise drills with Russian Navy ships in a first ever bilateral exercise in the Mediterranean in May as part of a exercise schedule agreed to last year.

Pentagon report: China planning for future large-scale drone warfare

A Chinese-made Wing Loong UAV being flight-tested

China’s military plans to produce nearly 42,000 land-based and sea-based unmanned weapons and sensor platforms as part of its continuing, large-scale military buildup, the Pentagon’s annual report on the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) disclosed Friday.

“The acquisition and development of longer-range UAVs will increase China’s ability to conduct long-range reconnaissance and strike operations,” the report said.

China’s ability to use drones is increasing and the report said China “plans to produce upwards of 41,800 land- and sea-based unmanned systems, worth about $10.5 billion, between 2014 and 2023.”

Thats why I asked earlier, what is exactly is on the arms embargo on China? Probably non-NATO countries don't apply to it, but I see Germany freely sell marine engines to China which is being installed on PLAN warships. Dont understand.... hmm.gif

North Korea is irrelevant Korea. To China, Korth Korea is like that dangerous rabid dog you accidentally fed once and now won't leave your backyard.

The PLA even had a contingency plan to invade & occupy North Korea when Kim Jong-Il died to prevent a possible civil war. We're probably lucky (?!) his son took over relatively peacefully (besides him executing his uncle by throwing said uncle into a pack of killer dogs biggrin.gif ).

Neh.. japan wont come. That will violate their self defence policy

Us need at least a few day to deploys his troops. Leaving sk to hold for that fews days.

US have already nearly 20,000 military personnel in South Korea alone on high readiness, so there's not that of a very big deal (due to the Korean war ending on a ceasefire, US personnel deployed there are still put on a war footing and posted personnel get extra hazard pay) .

US troops in such numbers backed by advanced heavy equipment can probably give them a huge advantage against any North Korean aggression, their relatively small numbers notwithstanding. Also the nearly 40,000 US military personnel in Japan could be redeployed within a short time in the event of any attack.

Not to mention in an emergency US fighter planes from bases in Japan and Guam also could reach NK targets within a few hours at most.

Malaysia more militarily closer to US, at the same time economically closer to China. You can see a lot of US military personnel visiting malaysia each year for exercises (some of which not made public), but so far no PLA guys.

US considers deploying maritime patrol aircraft and naval vessels to South China Sea

user posted image

QUOTE
The Pentagon is considering sending US military aircraft and ships to assert freedom of navigation around rapidly growing Chinese-made artificial islands in the disputed South China Sea, a US official said on Tuesday.

Defense Secretary Ashton Carter requested options that include sending aircraft and ships within 12 nautical miles (22km) of reefs that China has been building up in the Spratly island chain, the official said.

Such a move would directly challenge Chinese efforts to expand its influence in the maritime heart of Southeast Asia.

"We are considering how to demonstrate freedom of navigation in an area that is critical to world trade," the US official said, speaking on condition of anonymity, adding that any options would need White House approval.

Asked about the Pentagon plan, China's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that Beijing was "extremely concerned" and demanded that the US issued a clarification of the remarks.

Guess where they'll base these assets? brows.gif

Iran military leaders warn of 'strict action' if Iranian aid ship is blockaded by Arab coalition forces
QUOTE
Iranian military leaders are warning that any efforts to block passage of a supposed aid ship heading for Yemen “will spark war in the region,” according to multiple regional reports. Arab coalition leaders suspects the ship is carrying arms and supplies to the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

The warning also was sent to the Saudi Arabian government, which is positioned against Iran in the fight raging in Yemen.

“The countries involved in war against Yemen are no way allowed to inspect the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ship which is carrying humanitarian aid,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said in a statement on Wednesday published by the country’s state-run media.

“Attacking the Iranian Red Crescent aid ship will spark war in the region,” Iranian General Massoud Jazzayeri was quoted as telling Arabic media late Tuesday. “And this fire may not be put out or brought under control.”

Iran’s Defense Ministry also lashed out at the United States on Wednesday in a statement meant to intimidate Western forces from interfering with the Islamic Republic’s efforts in waters near Yemen.

“The U.S. is an accomplice to the war criminals by supporting genocide in Yemen and the Iranian people’s food and drug aid is a humanitarian move to soothe the oppressed Yemeni people’s pains,” the Defense Ministry statement said.

Singapore, thailand or pinoy worse case.

Malaysia wont risk us presence to upset china. Maybe openly wont lah but secretly maybe yes

Best area for air & naval base to patrol Spratlys would be Sabah, Brunei, Vietnam or Philippines. Thailand and Singapore quite far away for effective air patrols in SCS, but would be more compliant to any US application for a base on their soil, also a base in Vietnam is probably out of the question.

Donno how any way for Malaysia to secretly deploy air base for P-8 Poseidons tho. laugh.gif

Ah, so it is. sweat.gif

Anyway, anyone notice how the T-14 main gun mantlet is somewhat restricted and located way too low on the turret? I wonder what's the main gun elevation/depression angles are on this tank? Doesn't seem it can go that much either way.

Try compare with an M1 Abrams, which has a more free-moving gun mantlet:
