Im looking around to form a team of people to guide/teach kids/teenagers who are not so fortunate.
Example orphanage/hospitals and etc.
How it all started: I have been a scout for many years and had the opportunity to learn various wonderful skills. However, there are a number of people who does not have such opportunity to experience certain outdoor activities/ skills(hospitalised childrens or orphans whom spent much of their time inside the orphanage). So if they cant go and experience certain things, we go to them.
This is not part of any organization. Just forming a team of cool people to do awesome stuff for the community.
Aim: Mental and physical(minimal to moderate) development. Providing our recipient some unique experiences, knowledge and most importantly fun.
For a start, the basic plan is as follows.
Task : guidance/teaching real life skills(general)
Duration: 1.5 hours per week (hopefully weekend as I understand most of us are studying or working)
Location: TBD (it really depends on if the venue selected allows us to do so)
Minimum number of volunteer on site: 2-3
This team will be contributing some time and knowledge.
Minimal spending of money(may spend abit for items which would be used for an activity example, stationary).
This activity will be based in Penang.
Other than doing a good deed and giving back to the community, here is why you should consider to be part of this team.
- networking (get to know more people! skill is 1 thing, but relationship brings you 1 step further)
- knowledge (with a team of people consist of various background, we can learn from one another)
- improving soft skills (to learn is to know, to teach is to understand)
- lastly, have fun
--------------------------------12/3/2015 Update--------------------------------------
- If the team has sufficient members, then turns can be take to be present during the activities. Example, a 6 person team, 3 people can take turns to run activities every alternate week.
- We will not be paid for doing this. But it does require some effort, responsibility and a little commitment.(Wouldn't be nice for the team to do this for 1 week and decided to just quit, unless theres a really good reason)
- Some example of activities could be - First aid(we can save life yo!), reading maps(sure A for geography), team building games, building a small construction (example a mini catapult), sewing(basic essential skill), cooking and etc.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will be updating this list to be more detailed as we go.
There's heaps of things to be considered and implemented.
So if anyone is interested, let me know. Feel free to ask questions. Also, if you're unsure because theres still lack of information, dont worry! ask away or stick around as this plan develop and join when youre ready.
Note: This plan is still in its infant stage and would require some help for it to progress.
