I remember working in PC Unlimited store at 1Utama, there was a 4MB CF Card that was RM600. Yes I actually sold one blink.gif

Let's take a look back at digital photography in 1996

i remember watching an interview;
a camera manufacturer made a digital camera, but to view it you have to plug to TV (thats before computers)

that product was a failure because sony made a digital video camera, people decided since its gonna be connected to the tv it might as well be moving picture.

so they went into skunk works, and the creator realized the potential of digital cameras and computers working together, and slap on an lcd on the camera and it was a great success

Ah, still remembers my 1st digicam, a Nikon with a whopping (back then) 3MP resolution & comes with a 16MB CF card that stores a "massive" 20 full resolution photos! rclxub.gif

Look at how far we've gone to now! thumbup.gif

i recall my first digital camera back in highschool, it should be around year 1999 or 1998. sony maverica? something. using diskette, fill with 10-12 pic each diskette. forgotten is 0.1mp or 0.3mp. that time memory card is not even commercialized yet. then not long, compact flash mp3 was a hit, thats when i got myself a kodak MC3. (movie, camera, mp3) 3 in 1. and 16mb CF cost rm200!

first digital camera i bought with my own $$ was panasonic fx-7 in 2003, it cost me a reasonable $1.8k for the camera and another 200 bucks for 256MB kingmax SD card

very very sluggish even for its time although most reviewer raved about its performance and quality.

but still,it composed 30k priceless jpeg files for me throughout my uni years

1996 that's when people were using win 95 and when not everyone had PCs in their home. So no one had access to the internet. Also that time people were using their 56k modem line dialing like a noisy telephone. Basically those were the times when things were just not good enough.

Digital cameras weren't popular from what I remember until seeing 2 MP cameras. As said above easily not good enough for many people and that's when the Mega Pixel Wars began!

This MP war deja vu again for mobile phone cameras.

And today specs on a mobile phone look more powerful than the old systems that run on win 95/97. From 1.44MB floppy disk vs today's usb drives and SD cards. We do have super computers in our phones under 1996's standards. And the cameras in the phones are even better than the low end PnS cameras.

Read somewhere that they sent people to the moon back in the days running on less processing power than one of those Texas Instrument programmable calculator processors we use today.
