hi..i not really good at this but i would like to know if my current setup is capable for 2 ssd at raid 0.

i have asrock z77 extreme 4 and 1 wd black 1x samsung f1. so if i were to get 2 ssd for raid 0 then i need til plug that 2 ssd under Intel controller SATA 3 port and the remaining for my hdds right?

now do i have to update any bios or any apps first before i install this SSD? because i have not touch anything (bios update/configuration) in my mobo even since i bought the system abt 2+ years ago.

can i just plug and configure raid 0 then install windows, that's it?

hi, i have similar mobo as you but extreme6.

1. if you are not comfortable in updating firmware and not experiencing any issues now, just leave it as it is.
2. plug both ssd in sata0 and sata1, those are intel native SATA3 controllers.
3. in the bios, set hard disk config as RAID and also turn on ROM option for devices, so the RAID menu will show during startup.
4. build your RAID array after entering the UI of RAID menu.

a. At the RAID Setup UI you select the first option "Create Raid Volume"
b. Give it a name (Optional) - Press Enter to move down to "Raid Level"
c. Set to RAID0(Stripe) and press enter - Mine had that already by default.
d. Give it a Strip Size of 128 by pressing the down arrow on the keyboard and then press enter - You can set it to something else, but I prefer 128.
e. Press enter again to accept the given capacity (should be max by default)
f. Press enter once more to begin creating the volume.
g. Press Y to continue.
h. You're all set now...

I would recommend you to use UEFI instead of legacy settings to boost your boot up time thumbup.gif

RAID 0 for my samsung evo 850 500GB*2, and set created 80GB for OS and the remaining for my files/games.

That's about right. The two SSDs connected to the first two Intel SATA 3 ports.

Updating BIOS & firmware not always necessary. They should be plug-n-play.

You can configure RAID0 in BIOS & proceed installing Windows on it. Before you can install windows, copy Intel RST drivers folder (extracted) to the USB thumb drive. This is because when installing windows, you will need to load the Intel RST drivers for the installer to detect the SSD RAID0.

windows 8 and windows 10 no intel rst drivers needed when installing OS.
