Gears of War 4 is almost 80GB. I am playing this and I plan to delete after completing this game.

quite a few things. im still on z77, so an upgrade would be worth it now. 

in terms of performance, z97 with i7 4790k is still relatively strong in the years of skylake and kabylake, if you don't run 64gb ram. for most people, even 32gb is an obvious overkill. the combo still can run 1x gtx1080 at full speed, or 1x gtx 1080 at x8 speed, and 1x pcie 3.0 x4 ssd (gpu running at x8 is still ok relatively compared to x16)

for z77 owners, however, it's worth the upgrade to kabylake. z270 + 7700k will last another 5 years, at least.

speaking of upgrades, i'm eyeing a 6800k x99 rig. z270 seems nice and all, but i'm tired of being stuck at the 4c/8t group.

the upcoming x299 sounds good too, but definitely not going to be wallet-friendly, at least for me. 

if you wanna go for x99, i suggest you go for 6850k which has more pcie lanes (40) than 6800k (28). these cpus are not cheap, and it's very likely you will not swap one with higher end variants after that. (for me, even though i have saved up enough to do cpu/mobo/ram upgrades (6900k), i still tak rela to pull the triggers (5930k is still good tbh; it's a waste of money if i do that now)

edit: also, our myr is still in bad shape; it's really not the right time to do anything :/ (i read that ram price is also expected to run high in near future because of shortage, thanks to samsung :///)

well yeah that's how things go unfortunately.

look at it this way: maybe before that time you have found other things that are worth to use the savings for than hardware components

like g104 pointed out, it's not just mere benchmark scores. there is a noticeable performance gap between the two. i compare 850 evo with my old sm951 based on my usage (which involves building and running multiple virtual machines frequently).

however, do you really need to have 960 evo? it really depends on your usage and budget, e.g. you want to use a 250gb drive solely for os and common software that can fit in it; then 960 evo is ok. on the other hand, sata-based 850 evo is usually sufficient to drive most daily personal computing, e.g. common usage. in such cases it's better to get larger capacity 850 evo instead with similar amount of money. (more space for you to play with)

Yea, searched lelong, lazada, gemfive, 11street but no luck. All of the platforms do have seller selling the older ocz tr150 128/240gb ver, just not the 480gb I'm looking for.

yeah; ssd price is surely getting bumped again in near future, according to reports found online, and a visit to lyp recently. few days ago i visited a well-known shop at lyp, the shop keeper even bumped the price on the spot (telling me the latest price list for that ssd was, somehow, the 'old' price) come on, like i don't have choices :/

at least i don't feel any differences between the two. however i suggest going for 850 pro for its 10-year warranty. as for the recovery part, i'm not sure because both my 840/850 pro haven't failed yet. (still the better way to prevent such things is doing regular backups; the oldest but still the most efficient way to get back up from data loss)

Am new to SSD as well. Never tried one before. My win10 is relatively fast on my WD Blue HDD, but would like a faster SSD as well to boot up my windows. Any recommendations? 120 or 250gb should suffice.

however from SSD reviews, theres many tests carried out and the read / write speed varies from 100 MB/s to 500MB/s.

what test is important and we should look at? I plan use for the SSD is for internet browsing, streaming and 1080p gaming.
