The price for the LiteOn S900 is very good. The SSD will last longer than you expect so no worries. Anyways, mind sharing where you get to buy the ssd at that price? tongue.gif

don't worry about the lifespan. with that usage, plus proper ssd optimizations, it will last for quite some times. it's better to go for 256gb. it has more space for you.

Haha, lastly the experiment came to an end... sweat.gif

But it do sounds some warning, particularly for Samsung's drive. Both their drives (TLC and MLC) suffered from spontaneous failure without pre-warning, that is something to take note bout though.

right biggrin.gif imo the abuse of "limited lifespan" without giving a meaningful context of how long it is kind of the main reason of why people keep asking about this.

There are many such persons. I just hope they can one day get the facts right lol!

I think they will be retired long before that point of time is reached.

True, but that's after how many TB of writes? Their testing conditions were continuous, for nearly 18 months. In a typical consumer work load, even for those who torrent 24/7 will not reach that kind of writes any time soon.

Apply the same kind of continuous workload on a traditional HDD, it's quite obvious which will come out the winner.

I do get that the workload is far beyond what a normal consumer will do, but there are still 2 issues.

- there will be exceptional consumers which indeed have such an insane amount of write on daily basis. Alternatively there may be programs/malwares which assist users achieving such insane amount of write.
https://www.google.com.my/search?q=drm+kill...3OJSIuwSdg4CYAg

- the issue isn't about how much will fail, but the issuing of warning signal b4 failing.

- Users who need enterprise class workloads should go for enterprise SSDs. If they want to save cost because they cannot afford to pay for the premium, then who's to blame if something goes wrong? Same for those who uses consumer class HDDs for continuous workloads in tight server racks.

- It is people's responsibility to keep their own drives clean, no 2 ways about this IMO.

- I do agree that a SSD should signal something before failure. But you and I know that there are symptoms to a failing drive right before they actually just go dead. I do hope there are more comprehensive controllers in the future that will allow users to monitor their usage in exact through SSD apps.

what SSJBen said. yes a signal to warn drive failure is good, but imo a more practical way is to do backups. you don't write a lot in backup drives/storage, except for backing up stuff. for now, backups in hdd still makes sense.

If you tight on Budget.

Get 128GB + 1TB HDD or else 256GB which are more likely recommended. PS. RM199 Liteon 128GB where you get that price? Cheapest I saw is RM205.

in general the differences are slight bumps of performance, warranty period, controller, and nand flash. additionally 840 pro is proven to survive for quite some times.
