No need to wonder hehe you can find the specs at kingfast-ssd.com. From a quick glance it's a typical value ssd settings, ie. Silicon Motions 4-channel controller, coupled with mlc nand flash.

ohh, didn't know that u partitioned the single 1TB hdd... you can just wipe the C: partition and like Horns says included the hidden system partition (if u used wins 10, it usually 500MB in size), then leaft the D: partition untouched... if it was mine, i prefer to transfered all the remaining files in the D: partition and wipe entire HDD and make it as a single partition only... just take few times only to do so... but, like I said, if u dont wanna waste time and wanna get easier, just left the D: partition as it is smile.gif
*
seems not bad having 1 partition on the hdd, that what I do on my laptop laugh.gif
but how to do it ? after wipe the C drive on HDD, for D drive remain untouch
in disk management can extend the storage for D drive eh ?

QUOTE(horns @ Jan 14 2016, 10:26 AM)
Yes you should do that. My point is that the system partitions might be reused by windows installer if the hdd is present when new installation takes place. This might not be what you want. By 'wiping' i don't mean just reformatting, but deleting partitions physically (and logically), leaving behind unallocated space. I normally use windows installer to do that, since you cannot remove any of them when they are in use. After that, shut down the computer, install new ssd, and boot it to do new install.

It sounds complicated but it's easy to do in practice.
*
so if I delete the C drive that exist on HDD and I want to make it as 1 partition only how to do it ?
in Disk Management can extend the volume for the D drive (example from 500gb to full HDD size) ?

lol ok

ALERT: although i like plextor drives, there is a high failure rate of plextor drives being reported recently (model and capacity unknown). the actual reasons of drive failure are also unknown. if you're an owner of one, back up your data from time to time from now on.

edit: mine was like since 2013. no issues so far (m5pro; m5m)

hmm... does this only applies to Plextor drives? Or does it also affects Liteon drives? hmm.gif

His SSD working again based on his last reply. Sound like his BIOS/motherboard acting up, not the SSD. Disabling IRST in BIOS will make the SSD unbootable (referring to one of his troubleshooting step).

Look at the changelog. There is possibility the drive (M6S) might freeze/hang under some circumstances. This is what you don't want to hear. biggrin.gif Probably good idea to avoid Plextor for now. But at least they are being frank with what is going on with their drive. Other companies probably put "fixed bug" or "improve drive compatibility" in their firmware changelog.

yeah this is the one that is imo more related to the 'missing' ssd.

yeah, the freezing bug has been fixed. i suggest applying the firmware if it's not yet done.

to be fair, we need more concrete news related to this.

I have a 512GB Samsung NVMe 950 Pro incoming but no motherboard as of yet. Is the Asrock motherboard still the one to get pair it up or should I look for something else? If I could, I would want to stay with smallish mATX.

if you referred to m.2 slot that can run pcie 3.0 x4, you also have plenty of choices from almost all brands now. just remember to check out their m.2 slot specs carefully because the slot usually share pcie lanes with pcie slots.

Thanks for the tips. Yes m.2 slot. I don't plan to run dual GPUs or anything but yeah, I ideally want to future proof and jump onto the LGA 2011 with entry level i5820k processor. The thing is mATX form factor severely limits my choices. The other reason wanting LGA 2011 is that I would get to have 4 x DIMMs available on the mATX form factor.

Current Version: 3.24.082015.05
Momentum Cache version: 1.7.3.0

- The Crucial Storage Executive is compatible with Microsoft® Windows® 7 and newer versions, including Windows® 10, and supports Crucial MX-series, BX-series, M550, and M500 SSDs.
- Momentum Cache is an intelligent software driver that dynamically leverages unused system resources to enhance burst performance. This feature runs on supported drives containing a boot volume in Windows systems only. It is recommended to enable Momentum Cache on your system's boot drive. For more information on Momentum Cache, see the Enhancing Burst Performance with Momentum Cache Technical Note (TN-FD-32) available on micron.com. Is it possible / recommended to get a 2.5' ssd enclosure for dual M.2 ssd ?

I'm asking cos it makes more sense incase one needs to upgrade, there's an extra slot.

Will the heat be a factor?
