i'm using firefox with the add-on Flashblock installed because i like opening many tabs at once, but don't want all the flash animations to hog down my system resources.

today i noticed that the blocked flash ad on the forums turn out oversized and gets in the way of the website unless i manually right click>remove this flash. this ad is present everywhere, and i'm getting pretty annoyed by it.

well, if you block the ads...then dont complain.

that is a flashblock specific issue. It is blocking the full width of the flash ad, even when the ad itself is not at that width. We can't really help you with that. You would experience the same problem at countless other sites that employ expandable banners.

We've already sorted out most of the issues with the ad breaking its borders on our side. We however can't fix an external plugin.

i'm not blocking any ads, but the ads at the main page sometimes do block the recent topics (prevent clicking)

why is it a flashblock issue? it didn't act this way before(read: yesterday), and i certainly didn't update the add-on or anything.

nub: The flash movie closes the floating window. When you only block the flash movie, the window doesn't close. So it's a flashblock issue.

nub: its a flashblock issue because its not specific to this site. The extra large block will appear on any site that uses expandable banners. Also, we can't control the way an external plugin is written to block ads and change the ad to accomodate the plugin.

obviously i didn't notice the other thread because i never knew what the ads were about, hahah! should this thread be closed and continue in the other?

fariz: it's not about blocking ads, it's about blocking flash animations alltogether! like i said, i normally have at least 10 tabs open at any given time. and ever since youtube especially, a lot of news sites often post an assortment of flash videos on their frontpage, apart from the usual ads. i'm not really running a very high-end machine, but even if i was, i won't want my system resources wasted on things i'm not interested in. image ads i don't mind, they don't use that much.

bleh, i'd just use greasemonkey to resize it(or just remove it), but there isn't a compatible release for ff2.0 rc2 yet.
