anyone here facing dota 2 crash/hang during gameplay? The problem is like when u playing, it suddenly freeze the display but the game music is still running...

i received 2 abandoned penalty because of this issue

-16gb hyper ram
-amd radeon sapphire r9 270 vapor-x

that's weird. im using windows 8.1 too but i dont have this kind of problem happens to me before. did you check anything running on the background or something?

your spec is too good for dota too.

i play a lot of game, BF3 and 4, NFS, COD...
but the others were no problem, of course no background running program

I am also experiencing the same thing, but my scenario is a bit different. The game will start off normal, then halfway will have lagging issue ( i can confirm that it is not network connection as i am in the same game with my bro, his game is fine) and then after that my lappie will have BSOD. Last week it was still fine, only this few days it started to have problems.

here is my spec:
-win 8.1 64bit
-intel i5-4210u
-8gb ram
-Nvidia GeForce 820m

Try adjust your video setting to minimum and untick every graphic options.
It might be the graphic.

tried that method ady, still the same, it will freeze at the middle of the game...
the funny part is it only freeze 1 time only, after that it won't freeze again no matter how many round u play...
keep it simple, everyday the game will freeze 1 time, but that 1 time have cause me get abandoned penalty

How long is the freeze?
Sounds to me like its more than 5 minutes to warrant a penalty.

I still think its the problem with graphics, since you mentioned that the screen froze during the occurrence. But you can also check your network ping during said freeze. If the ping spikes, then probably something is wrong with packet loss or some other app running in the background is hogging the network due to its high priority setting.

I'm just shooting random suggestions, but you can try adjusting your resolution setting next to see if the problem still happen in a lower resolution setting (or higher).

Do you have gaming mouse or gaming keyboard that might have bunch of customized functions? Perhaps the device driver is messing up. You can try lookup in Device Manager.

My other method would be to pull out the graphic driver and try either the on-board graphic (if possible) and see if the problem lies in the VGA card. Of course this is a hassle to do.

You can try pop up your TASK MANAGER and keep it running in the background. When the error happens, try Alt+Tab and see which app is showing erratic values in the task manager.

I did encounter similar issue like u mentioned quite often some time ago. Can you still issue commands like move your hero and the game music still playing when the screen freezed?

Usually force shutdown dota 2 by task manager and restart dota 2 will get the job done. The bug did not happen to me anymore recently though..

the game freezes, the mouse and the music still running, so i quickly minimize the game and force close by task manager...but this is not a permanent solution, the game will freeze again the next day and i have force close it again

I faced this problem before , end up I just install and update graphic driver problem solved.

Try to update your drivers. I think mine is fixed after updating my intel graphic driver.

did you open any flash video on browser or open any media player outside when you play dota?

if yes, then same prob with me. amd latest driver problem
