AW have far more capabilities than just "that", try a Breitling watch face or even maybe Seiko, heck Tag Huer it, go the the exotic Rolex, your choice

functionality also is generally wider, voice message, navigation, fitness tracking etc etc, depending on the watch itself and what you want to do with it

Friend, I own lg g watch as well. I roughly know what is android wear in my dictionary. But this thread is android smartwatch ma... not purely android wear right?

Coming from Pebble 1st gen (owned 2 of them), Pebble Steel (steel and black, 2 of them), LG G watch, and LG G watch R... and now Pebble Time.

If notification, outdoor visibility and battery life is all what you need out of your smartwatch, I would say pebble still hold pretty strong in this department.

How well is AW improving I don't think I need to elaborate further here, u all AW sifus ma. biggrin.gif

Just to point out some highlight on the new Pebble Time.

- Very refreshing new user interface, very smooth animation from click to click, page to page, even on charging. Very very different from the old pebble. the 64 colors e-ink look far smoother if compare to the black/white old pebble. normally, eink display refresh rate is much much lower (like the one in the old pebble), but this one somehow seem response faster and smoother. Resolution to my knowledge is same as the old pebble, but somehow it looks much better indoor or outdoor. maybe due to the curve gorilla glass surface.

- No more feeling plasticky with Pebble Time. the bezel is metal, and the overall build of the watch is far far better than the old pebble. it's slim and sleek factor, wear very comfortable on wrist. the factory fitted rubber strap is soft and sit just nice wearing it.

- integrated microphone, where you can reply msg via the mic or take voice recording. but this feature only support android smartphone now, iOS i'm not sure when it will be implemented. (as i'm with iOS)

- Battery life can last 4-5 days based on my usage (quite heavy). mostly running misfit app. on evening time (daily) and push notification + vibrate mode for about 80-110 messages (whatsapp, emails, calendar events, sms and other notifications daily), used for whole day before sleep a quick check showing 80% battery left.

- Chinese font support issue: if you are pairing with android smartphone, you can install chines font pack, if you are pairing with iOS, then you are out of luck. but it does support emoticons (limited collections as some of the emoticon were showing in square box)

All in all, not a bad attempt for Pebble (cost just USD159), but they need to improve their application ecosystem as their app. framework is still pretty much sit below a layer iOS or AndroidOS. I think android or iOS can easily kill its ecosystem anytime if they wanted to.

Giving current my next option to try on AW devices... I will try on Sony SW3 next, heard it lasts quite a bit compare to current AW line.

Bought an Asus Zenwatch from a forumer, an open set but 100% not used or even wear before and price are RM100 cheaper than the retail.
Paired it with my SGS Note3 with Android Wearable installed, pretty fast and easy setup and it's pretty compatible with most of the features.
Compares to pebble, the colours are much better since it's Amoled while Pebble is using Oled for their incoming colour version. And of course the Pebble will have better battery life but without a touch screen features as Zenwatch does.
As for Pebble, it supports both iOS and Android where iPhone user who don't prefer for the huge price tag of iWatch will opt for it but Zenwatch can only support Android Smart Phones.
Anyway, since I just bought it and will observe the battery life for this Zenwatch to update you guys here.

i'm using pebble time, also ex-owner of lg watch, watch r, pebble steel. to me, it's different league if were to compare side by side. And correction on the OLED being used on pebble time, these are color e-paper technology, not OLED.

I think:
Pebble - more towards notifications push ONLY, other apps. are value added to make it more functional but not to compete with AW (android wear or apple watch), the only thing integrated to the new pebbleOS is the timeline feature, also the improvement of overall animated UI.

AW - aside from notification push, its actually integrated with alot of OS native app. the ecosystem is slightly open if compare to pebble. But Android wear only can pair with android devices, while apple watch for iOS users.

as if you want your smart watch to be able to support both worlds, pebble is the one to go then. unless, u just need activity tracker, then you will have plenty of choices.

overall, i'm impressed with s2 classic, given the price spent for pre-order buyer.

coming fr. pebble (standard, steel, time), AW LG G watch, g watch R and apple watch 42mm. I think this one look the best among all as a watch that wear on wrist with some smart functionalities. apart from standard features like activity tracker, HBS and etc. I think smartwatch (noted this is smartwatch, not just an activity tracker) should come with customisation watch dial, like G2, Pebble (thru app.) or apple watch. AW still lacking in this department.

for a person that is kinda into watches like me, i think apart from notification push fr your smartphone to ur wrist watch, the dial seriously play the major part to decide whether the device really suit you, be it functionality or fashion-ability. the floating glass actually imitate real mechanical watch glass, something seems new applying this to smart watch, but seriously.. when looking at the dial at side angle.. it looks seriously gorgeous!

the size is perfect for my wrist size 6"8 (right wrist), thickness is consider slim, and weight right. the build is great, the lug design to me is neatly designed. (sorry, not a fans of huawei watch lug design, as the watch case protruded lug design isn't my cup of tea)

and sorry.. just my personal opinion.. no offence made to other smartwatch platforms ok.

case size comparison with other mechanical watches:

45mm - 41mm - S2 Classic - 39.2mm

but how come i dont hv the dial like noobie123 has pointed out one??

all in all.. after trying pebble, pebble steel, pebble time, LG G watch, G watch R, Apple watch, Gear S2 classic.

undoubtedly... AW has an upper hands on features overall, i just hope it has better improve battery life. if you just need notification alert, cant go wrong with pebble. but still... language support is an issue to settle... hmm.

Heartbeat sensor is good and already in the road map of western's medical field. whatever logged can then be uploaded to your medical specialist to do further diagnosis based on your activities over your heartbeating rate. (provided the sensor accurately capture your heartbeat la...)

Curious about smart watches.

There are many fancy watch faces to custom use etc. but because of battery, they can only be seen when hand moves. Aside from that, its only screen saver or black.

So its kind of wasted, because other people cannot see the face at all when we are seated or standing/walking unless we twist our hand right?
*
it's all about what is your intention of wearing a smartwatch in the first place.

1. for your own syiokolicious / u die die need a notification device to alert you at all time without taking out ur phone all the time just to check any sort of notification.

2. to show off to others

if u wear it just merely to show off to other people, then you are shallow, bcox smart watch is nothing to shout about nowadays. if for own syioking session... why not and what is wrong with the watch face being turn off? u can set to always on if you want.. perhaps few hours of battery life before next recharge.

You're too harsh on the show off part. A plain white tees are just as practical and comfortable as graphic tees with design, why you still buy it ?
*
harsh? it's like i'm wearing a plain white shirts with a tiny pony logo on my upper left, but I complaint other people cannot see... because i know i'm wear a polo shirts but other people might think i'm wear just a plain white shirts.

my point is, u owned the watch, it's up to you to set always-on or active screen when tilt, and the question throw to us from the user was "it is pointless to wear smart watch, because other people cannot see the watch face..." <- it sounds like u wear it just for other people to be able to see it??

get my point?

Agreed.

As for me using Pebble, I think good enough already. Yet desire for AW is high. I can't deny by using Pebble attract more smartwatch wannabe who buy some cheapo china watch and brag their watch can do this and that, comparing to my pebble. Some got cheated too, pay but no item coming. Even so, I don't care, I still want another smartwatch, tried Pebble Time, but didn't like it. Almost buy Asus Zenwatch, but due to visibility under direct sunlight really turned me down. Now Gear S2 or Huawei Watch really tempting with AMOLED screen.
*
bro, i hv owned the followings (might not remember the exact model):
-Sony sw2
-LG G watch
-LG G watch R
-Pebble (1st gen)
-Pebble steel silver
-Pebble steel black
-Pebble Time
-Apple Watch
-Samsung Gear s2 classic
-Pebble Time Round

I think i have better insights on the smartwatch department... being a Watch Idiot Savant aka watchfreak myself on mechanical watches. I tends to imagine with the emergence of todays' technology, what can a smartwatch actually do more to be just a device that only tells time (or perhaps, GMT function that tells time for different timezone... put aside chronograph features and etc.. i don't think you will use it in normal condition).

back to back, to sum up. I think AW has been greatly improve alot compare to when I first encountered with LG G watch previously, tonne of AW apps. can be found now compare to lastime. For sure, I'm looking towards the future of AW... but meanwhile... I still think pebble fits what I really need as of now - notification push with serious battery life.

Maybe when I back hometown today I will go seek more shops. Maybe I need to test moto360 myself too.
Being passionate is gifted, it's a rare talent. I once become like that before during audiophile & console age. Now left already. I admit people with more experience tend to give more accurate review on what to expect from it.

I curious, out of all smartwatch you owned, how many still be yours?

Haha, notification push with serious battery life is very handy punch line. But my Pebble already a year age, already showing sign of battery performance degration, and also cable maybe need to find new for spare already. I wonder if battery die, how to replace it. Haha. Timeline update seems ok.
Too bad Lowyat is like.. 700km from my place.
Eh? so you can't try it on your hand?

- pebble time (wife taken it!!)
- gear s2 classic (my sis taken it!!)
- pebble time round (on my wrist, pairing with ip6s via BTLE n note5 via BT at the same time)

the rest sold off to friends or forumers here. smile.gif
