The Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) 15-year “marriage” with Sunrise Yonex came to an end when Taiwan sports goods supplier Victor came on board with a RM60 million sponsorship deal over six years. BAM president Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff said Victor will become the main sponsor for equipment needed by the players and the BAM, replacing Sunrise Yonex, which has been with the BAM as the main sponsor for 15 years. Tengku Mahaleel said Victor was a well known global sports good supplier for products manufactured with the highest quality using state-of-the-art technology. “Victor will supply sports equipment to the BAM and through the sponsorship deal, the BAM’s financial standing will also become stronger. It is also in line with Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s call for National Sports Associations to become self reliant and not merely depend on the government for funding,” he told reporters after signing the sponsorship deal with the chairman of Victor, Chen Den-Li, at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara, here today. Meanwhile, Victor (Malaysia) managing director Alex Ong said he was confident that the sponsorship deal would help the BAM to produce more talented players. “We hope the BAM can continue to produce players in the mould of Lee Chong Wei, especially to win titles at the world and Olympics levels. We have products of the highest quality to assist players to win. “We have been providing equipment for world-class players and teams like South Korea. Such equipment has been able to assist players from the country to win numerous titles,” said Ong. Victor which was established in 1968 has since emerged as a leading producer of shuttlecocks, badminton rackets, court, apparel, shoes and other accessories related to sports and badminton. – BERNAMA http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...-deal-with-bam/ |
