i will be joining my new company soon, which is an IT Security position, but i also intend to take 1 professional certification in IT security, lets say compTIA, but my trainer suggest me to take CCNA 1st before going to any IT security certification, I already owned CEH, but im not sure whether CCNA will be relating my current job, or maybe put it in a way like"will it benefit with my job now?"

So the question is, should I wait for company training offer by working long enough to get their sponsor(though one of their benefit is sponsoring those training that require renewal upon expiry) or spend my own money pursuing compTIA security+, my trainer is also my CEH trainer, so not sure whether should follow his suggestion, though CCNA will cover very less on IT security, more to networking while compTIA cover all on security.

However, with CEH background, i think taking compTIA security + or higher shouldn't be a problem without CCNA. Am i doing it right? Any IT expert out there could advise me?

yes, CEH nowadays is more theory based essentially does not provide too much actual value but since everyone is listing it as a basic necessity for IT security

security+ is less popular but don't let that stop you
depending on your interest, certs like CISM or CISSP would be more popular.
another used to be quite unknown cert, GIAC is now gaining popularity. it is much more technical than CEH

so like i said, depending on interest, those 2 lines should help you to decide what type of IT security consultant you want to be more focused in smile.gif

cheers and maybewe might meet in security events laugh.gif

CCNA definitely will benefit as it is the foundation of cisco network.
i would suggest u wait for training sponsor. don't waste ur money.

honestly speaking CEH is rubbish. so it depends on what kind of security field u want???

if u super enjoy the penetration, then go for GIAC, mile2 , bla bla , but don't have also no problem, master urself with backtrack and kali linux is enough for u to machine.
if u want the compliance stuff, then go for CISA, CISM
if u want the framework, then go for CISSP

oh ya, u also better take those forensics

yea, i might be waiting for company sponsor, 3.8 k price is a pain in the ass.

ya i really enjoy in pentesting and forensic, i have playing kali linux for years and it's fun... hah!!! but speaking of CISSP, im need years of experience to get it although i really want to take it so badly, how about CHFI? or ECSA? CHFI is more on forensic while ECSA is more on security analysis.

well, i would say u can forget the ECSA and CHFI, i don't think it is useful, perhaps i am wrong. at least to me, it not worth it.

u don't have to get cissp now, u can get it later.... now master ur skill in backtrack and kali .... then u can go for those audit firm too.
