TM UniFi :
We regret to inform you that currently we are having issue with HSI slow browsing
towards North Asia affecting our users nationwide. Please note that we are currently
doing our best in order to rectify the issue. At the meantime, we really appreciate
your kind patience, as we will try our best effort to resolve this problem as soon as possible.

the above is std response, explains nothing.

but... anyone who has been using china sites and reading in this section will know. there has been several similar threads on same subject before.

... this is not first time; happened in sep, nov 2014, jan 2015 and now end feb 2015; each time 7-14 days.
... i m surprised it has quickened, not every 2 months but every month now.
... does not happen with sites in europe or north america.
... problem is said to be unifi china traffic (weekly, monthly?) quota used up very fast - increasing traffic while no incr in quota, i.e. $.
... no indication unifi will incr $ for bigger quota.
... does not happen with streamyx or maxis... (likely due to much less china traffic)

it should resume after a few more days with new cycle but expect it to recur every month. heavy china site users - very bad news.

anyone with different explanation, please correct me. tq.

dont tell me china great wall of china block google dns????

google is banned in china, so nothing google will work with china sites, all the time.

w/o unifi china bandwidth quota problem, tm and other non-google dns can access china sites.

with the unifi problem, there is only one way - use of vpn.

but I can still access the same website few days ago.... just the last few days cannot access using Google DNS.  sweat.gif

that, I cant explain. I used google DNS before for China sites, not very good, so i suspected it's due to the ban. after changing to some other DNS, it was good, all the time. Except when unifi has its "period", like now - no DNS will work.

Only way is use of Vpn. I have one on standby since this unifi problem comes every 2 months and now, every month. Give it a few more days, all will return to normal. Next month, it will repeat.

So, heavy China site users, better get vpn or switch ISp. Becos it's been half a year since the problem started and unifi seems reluctant to do anything except giving standard responses.

some degree of service degradation such as slow browsing and high latency
while accessing international websites mainly hosted in the Europe, South and North Asia.

access to china sites - all was good feb 28-mar 5. the 7 days or so before feb 28, problem.
now, since 6 mar, problem recurred. been 2 days now.
problem seems to be getting more and more frequent, looking like 7 days on, 7 days off!
with vpn, there is no problem at all.
so, i think that notice and similar previous notices are just their standard bs to cover up a specific problem.

unifi access to China sites resumed today, maybe not full yet.

based on past records, the same disruption for another 7-10 days will return towards end March.

From business perspective it OK for them to have cap, but should have let us know. We pay as accordingly. But the service is something that I can't tolerate
*
that's right - be upfront, say "u can't get full china access for this package, etc."!

but no, lame excuse, cable down, maint... same old crap all the time for months. and when u call unifi, it always, 100% of the time, starts with a recorded message, "we r experiencing difficulties...". might as well start with, "you pay, we hv right not to give u service"!!

since fed opendns, google dns are all not able to resolve some of china website url. still a myth why cant resolve. maybe china great firewall problem. better use back your isp dns.

google is banned in china. no point using google open dns.
