Thermaltake Core V1
Cube Casing for Mini-ITX Motherboard

user posted image

Introduction

Today we are going to bring the latest cases from Thermaltake inside our lab. The new Core V1 represented by Thermaltake is a small and cute ITX based chassis with a 200mm fan in the front panel. The casing came with smart interchangeable side panels that allow users to flip it accordingly to showcase either for superior liquid cooling or superb airflow, which allows them to make their own personal setup. User not only granted to have a really powerful mini system, it also has the ability to house various overclocking components to keep it really cool! Check out the rest of our review below.

Unboxing

In this section, we will make unboxing of Thermaltake Core V1 Chassis. The box is pretty straight forward with basic information like other standard casing box.

User can find full specifications of Thermaltake Core V1 on the left side of the box including the important information like Radiator support, fan support and clearance for CPU Cooler, VGA Length and PSU Length.

Upon opening the seal, the chassis is securely seal with plastic wrap and foam to reduce impact during transportation.

The front panel is pre-installed with 200mm Fan. The Core V1 Support single 200mm or 140mm or 120mm. We tried to install Water 3.0 Extreme that came with 240mm size of radiator but there is no way to make it stick at the casing unless you mod the case.

There is no screw holding the front panel. Removing it is pretty easy as Thermaltake design it with plug and play system.

user posted image
The front panel build in with soft foam that act as dust filter, no more worries of dusty even after a long period of usage. The foam can be easily clean off as the front panel is removable.

user posted image
The top panel is built with transparent acrylic for peek hole inside the chassis. What we surprised with this chassis as it top, side and bottom panel is interchangeable! Yes you hear it, interchangeable panel so you can swap any panel to your preferences.

The left and right panel is pre-drilled with hexagon mesh for air intake.

At the back, there are two 80mm fan slot for exhaust that user must buy separately in order to make it as an exhaust. The Core V1 support standard size of Power Supply and a maximum of two graphic card slot.

The front I/O Panel is located at the left side of the chassis. From the top :
+ Power and HDD Leds
+ Power Button
+ 2x USB 3.0 Port
+ Audio jack
+ Headphone jack
+ Reset Button

The standard cable that connect the Front I/O Panel with the motherboard. The cable is flat black thus suitable for all build color theme.

On the bottom there are 4 plastic case feet and the PSU slot came with removable Fan Filter for easy cleaning.

All the part of the chassis taken out.

The top view of the chassis upon removing the panel. The Core V1 only support ITX size of motherboard. Another cons we notice here is the standoff type for this chassis might be easily loose.

user posted image
On the right side is where the hard drives mounting located. User can mount up to 2 units of 2.5’ or 3.5’ HDD sizes.

user posted image
The space is really big enough even for installing a very long graphic card. There is more than enough rooms for cable management on the bottom part of the Core V1.

The left side of the chassis showing the overall view of the graphic card and power supply. Even the power supply is non modular but you can see there’s still a lot more space for hiding cable power.

On the right side we mount a 120GB of Crucial M6S SSD.

After all the hardwares is installed in the chassis, it’s time to add some spices with the beautiful white LED.

Conclusion

Now it’s come to the final part of our review. First of all, congratulation Thermaltake for able to produce another great product! The idea of cube casing with interchangeable panel is really smart. With the pricetag as low as RM199, user can get on their hand with not only cheap casing but full of features with great build quality. The only cons that we notice is the standoff type used by this casing as it can be easily loose after a few times of screwing as the screw thread is really short compared to the standard golden standoff.

Performance: 3/5
Materials: 4/5
Specifications: 4/5
Appearance: 5/5
Performance/Price Value: 4/5

Pros:
+ The price is cheap.
+ Interchangeable top, bottom and side panel.
+ Large space for cable management.
+ 2 Separate compartment for clean and efficiency build.

Cons:
- Standoff motherboard might easily getting loose
- Does not support 240mm radiator
