Looks like I'm in the same boat. My mom's father has a white 1963 VW Bug, which still works, but looks a bit run down and had a small knock on the front right fender. Too bad some rats stole two of the car's original hubcaps a year or two back. We had to take off the remaining two and store it inside the house.

There is no air conditioning in the Bug. Just a small fan.

Added on May 11, 2008, 11:00 pmanyone here happened to be in MMU cyber?
i'm organizing a Beetle gatherings,from 2 different forums of beetle i joined,
ofcaz it's a self made gatherings,no bizness or anything involved, just want to make all of us know each other more, and, for u guys here, let u know that u are not alone...
there's plenty of beetle drivers out there...
who's interested?
it's planned on june 6th,as the next day is Yang Di-pertuan Agung's DOB.
so everyone should be free right?
venue is Old Town Cyberjaya, yet to be confirm, need to ask for ample parking space from the manager,so that we can take good shots.
but that's the best place i can get in mind.

anyone interested?u only come n pay for ur own drinks n food,ofcaz la,i'm only a student...tongue.gif
if can sms me also i would like to have u guy's number!!
thank you~!

Added on May 11, 2008, 11:12 pm2300 for a 1.2cc engine?bro,i'm afraid u got conned....
1.2cc nowadays ppl like disposing them,2300 u might even get an1.6cc engine but needed for overhaul..
i changed my engine to 1.6 when i bought it so i dono the price alone, but my fren changed to 1.6cc WITH gearbox and alternator (basically whole half cut) only costs him 4.5k~ oh ya,with installation.
sori bro~

anyway if u're looking for a local vw forum?i know, please pm me..not sure if can advertise here, and do let me know if u prefer chinese interface or english,or both.

if thats the case you'll probably need a new alternator, I'm guessing that the new engine  came with a smaller alternator than your old engine.
*
my guesses is not the alternator..
is the car ok now?
hard to start up may be a few things, most frequently is a cold engine, well if u say it's hard to start back after u drove for a drink, then it's less likely to be the cold engine,
therefore,my guesses are the tuning, the mixture tuning, and the idle speed tuning.
idle speed tuning i can do for u,the mixture tuning, better get to a proper shop.
anyway if this two still doesn't help, try check the starter/ignition,look if yours is an old Bosch starter.some say that the old Bosch starter gives these problems.
if that's not the problem, might need to check with ur manual and see if ur distributor fits with the engine.
anyway it's really less likely to be alternator as it's only for charging the battery.
even if u have a dead alternator, but full charged battery,u could start off ur engine smoothly...that's wat my bug was dealt with not long ago...
if that's the case,it'll drain your battery as it's discharging it instead of charging.

wow, askar_icy. i'm suprised that there is still a lot going on here. anyway, my beetle is in very bad condition now, involved in an accident previously. no money to fix. only did the panel beating stuff. might be selling the car off once it is fixed. maybe i'll join u guys for the TT. depending on availability of the car coz might be sending it for a respray. anyone here knows how much is a new rear bumper? coz mine bengkok and now knock back already not chrome already. sigh. classic car is fun to drive until u need to change those big big parts. not wear and tear parts. cheers.
