Recently I've been experiencing a sharp pain when I bench press. This happens only when I'm doing flat bench, and also dumbbell bench press.
Particularly at this part,

P.S not my arm.
Currently, I'm trying to avoid doing flat bench press just in case I tear something.
I suspect this happens because I have a weak lift-off or underdeveloped shoulders.

Anyone experienced this as well?

you should not have sharp pain anywhere when doing any exercise if you do, immediately stop it and find what's wrong

i am not sure about your sharp pain but i do get DOMS near armpit area when doing weighted dips and bench

looking at the part highlighted in your picture, i dont think it has got to do with shoulder, i think its more like biceps, could be some nerve gets strained all the way from forearm to biceps

mind telling us whats your grip for benchpress ?

Worth mentioning I did "push" myself extra hard on my biceps 2 days before.
For bench press typically I'll use medium overhand grip

i have no exact idea but i think you pulled your tendon or something

make sure when you're benching the barbell should not be at the middle of your palm, if problem still exist i dont know laugh.gif

1) Try using smith machines since you don't have to control / balance the bar.

2) Warm-up a lot

3) Try using wide grip and bend your body, as I call in Malay, melentik like a bohsia, when bench press.

4) Don't lock your arm during bench press ( lift until your arm straight and hold it ).

does this mean I should or shouldn't lift all the way until I lock my elbow?

Yup, when you goes all the way up, it's actually put your arms and shoulder on stress, not the chest. Especially when you doing the bench press using barbell not smith machines.
