1st) pls dont say every car is good/god car/best bang for your bucks/Very interested/worth it

If so why you are not driving it as your daily ride rolleyes.gif

Depends on the car, of course not every car will be a god car.

just highlight the bad point as well... like the some case of HR-V good good good.. in end test drive sluggish laugh.gif

Really?  Why?  RON95 infact is very good article from PT.  It just that malaysian people still have the mindset of RON97 is the better fuel no matter what facts you throw in.
*
to do a real control test, you need to consider the variables
in this case,

fixed variable/control - the engine of the car basically same performance and spec

non-fixed/test variable - RON 95 or RON 97

His method of review even by engineering standards is rudimentary, unless the driver is a robot no one have the same driving habit.

he claimed tat they switch drivers along the journey. This actually make the result even worse because now u are swapping different driving habits on all the tested vehicles which theoretically increased the randomness of the result. If one driving drive all the way until finish, at least he can claim consistent result by assuming tat one person have the same driving habit all the way. Then go to the next car and drive the same way as before. (More credible than swapping drivers)
Now u are swapping 4 different fellow in one car an expect a consistent result?

what he should do on in his so call real situation test is employed a dyno tester machine.. No not the kind tat improve your engine performance but rather the lab dyno testing used in university mechanical lab or engine test plant (both proton and p2 have it icon_idea.gif )

this is small lab type for university students to do lab test

And this is better dyno enginer performance (K&N)

I am too lazy how to explain how it works but it can be used to test diff fuel type and engine performance

Publishing the result based on control lab test is more credible than i drive on road and here is my result. If u are writing scientific paper and this is your methodology, the professor will laugh and throw your paper into the bin.

The last bit is quite irony.  You'll see the comment if Paultan really did a control test. They will rubbish it and ask for 'real-world' test to use Saga and Myvi.  rolleyes.gif

The fact still doesn't change that using higher number RON give benefit for normal engine compression ratio.  What i believe is the different additives added to the fuel itself that produce different result. Not the RON.
*
I guess u dont know really how RON number really works
For higher ron fuel, to prevent knocking retardant are added in which normally longer chain of hydrocarbon into the fuel to prevent the fuel from self ignite. That the additives you are talking about, there hardly any performance additives

If you want more power, you do it by adding higher octane fuel not RON. like pure ethanol, hyrogen etc etc but at the risk tat your car might explode because it not designed to operate in such high energy environment. Baciscally, the more flammable the fuels the better it is, the more power you can gain per litter of tat fuel. To calculate "scientifically' is by looking at the otto atkinson miller cycle etc the car engine is based upon. Again, it took me 4 years to learn about and I am lazy to explain it in details those themo cycles

For me its a damn good test.
Actual environment.. Same route.. Same jam or not..
Driver A might be more heavy footed than driver B. Thats why they swap to average it out. The key point is the car maintain same fuel. its a real life test. Control environment result are like what manufacturer advertise lo.. most oso cant get those figurea what whistling.gif

ppl use ron97 have to justify the cost differences ma whistling.gif
*
adding more variables make for a more inconsistent result. The fixed variable should be the driver but instead it become the test variable as well

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Feb 11 2015, 11:19 AM)
kopitiam people (that guys is clearly one of them) will still rubbish what you said.

if PT have access to those lab equipments, i think PT wouldn't be doing just simple car blogs only laugh.gif
*
In retrospect to your answer, Public uni rent those equipments for a reasonable fees for a valid reason
UM, USM, UTM and any respectable university mechnical lab will have it and it available for public use

The only thing you have to do is write to the dean and explain why you want to use it.
Of course, it will be more difficult to have those High performance lab like the one used in P1 and P2. The main reason why it difficult because engine fuel consumption is a closely guarded secret rolleyes.gif

at least I better than some wikepedia warrior that think they know everything by reading wikepedia

So are you saying that we should always pump RON97?
*
nope.. i personally pump ron95 just because it cheaper
The reason why 97 is more expensive is because it marketed to high performance vehicles meaning more strict quality controls which inversely increased it base line cost. The strict quality control is just better filtering and more constant quality lab test. Again, it just marketing rolleyes.gif

If want more power octane, you should ask to petronas shell etec to introduce ethanol fuel mixture, then you can get better power per litter plus cleaner burning fuel.

tiu lo, looks like another MON97 case

but he sounds like professor la, write letter can straight away loan any university equipment.

clueless kuli like me who know nothing besides reading up google/wiki dare not question/challenge.
ok bro i just google/wiki, i know nothing.
*
If you, you can ask him to contact me and i will try to ask for him for a equipment loan at either of those university

Of course he have to pay because the technician would have to set it up, It a pain in a ass to set up anyway

QUOTE(newmaster @ Feb 11 2015, 01:21 PM)
no,ron 97 no good from what he write, what he mean we should pump pure ethanol, hyrogen etc etc  whistling.gif

well, if can natural gas is better fuel if you can cramp more gas into the combustion chamber meaning higher pressure

sadly, NGV run on reduce pressure environment to comply to safety requirement
