my advice would is be thankful you get a job in this current situation where almost every one is retrenching. any experience at this time in the industry will be good in the long, and not to mention a steady paycheck what ever the amount is.

I like mhyug was so very friendly responded to you, deep in my heart rclxms.gif biggrin.gif

If me, I will just straight to the point, yes only for petroleum/mechanical and not for chemical especially those who getting a job but have no idea what is the current situation of the industry he/she will be in.
If one have the heart to join oil & gas will follow up in the industry and not waiting to be spoon-fed.

Note: in oil & gas, any qualifications background with relevant experience also can join drilling and completion, production, etc as long as the supply and demand concept is being practiced by the company how urgent they require that post to be filled up as per that time of economic situation.

Yes, plenty of ppl being laid off...weatherford is letting go 20% of their head count. and other companies too.

Baker is still hiring junior field engineer for some product line, but not in malaysia.

you guys can try the job sites like oilcareers and rigzone. there are plenty out there. Beautify your CV, create an account and apply away. And also update your LinkedIn profile. it helps.

some there laying off, here hiring, and vice versa. The trick is to optimize/lower down the overhead cost to align with the present crude oil price...the cunning of some Tops...

hi,

im interested with oil and gas field. im diploma in electrical engineering. Doing Infra and M&E coordination for project. By any chance i get into oil and gas?

Thank You.
*
was in infra and building services M for 3 years before able to join o&g. went through Management Trainee (MT) Program which was applied by 1000 plus applicants. only 7 were selected included me. i was offered Project Engineer instead of MT due to my 3 years technical experience in M&E consultant.

you can do it also with your own efforts. try a lot harder and innovate ways in your qualifications and experience if not achieve. there is always no short cut if normal person like me without any network that time.

been to the both website...woww the CSWIP training courses fee is so pricey....better start saving now hahaha

there are some stringent pre-requisite requirements for CSWIP.
If i remembered correctly, at least an Engineering degree or subject to approval based on your background qualifications.

I don't have anything against Sarawakians or Sabahans.

But the immigration policy of both states for org2 Malaya and the limitations of org2 Malaya to work in both states always bug me.

It's irony that I didn't need to show my international passport to any border customs when I was criss-crossing the Western Europe, but I need to show my Malaysia IC and fill up "custom forms" whenever I enter Sarawak or Sabah, a state that is part of Malaysia. I am a Malaysian the last time I check my IC. And we still need work permit to work in those "sister" states of ours.  Forget about thinking of owning a property over there. hmm.gif

Sometimes one needs to look at the perspective view of org2 Malaya with regard to Sarawak and Sabah, in order to understand how certain prejudices against our eastern brethren came about. Moreover calling us "org Malaya" doesn't help the situation either.

Just something to ponder for the Sarawakians and Sabahans out there.

Side track a bit from the main topic from "org Malaya".
*
...the 1963 Malaysia Agreement recognises the need to protect the special rights of both the peoples of Sarawak and Sabah in respect of employment and economic opportunities from being taken away by West Malaysians.

i have had 2 times with work permit for working in sarawak for 1-2 months each time. you need to question those politicians during the formation.

as mentioned by En. Yakup, one can try to join the turnaround/shutdown of plant. start from below. currently, at a shutdown now.
if one cannot withstand the shift working hours with every night slept 3-4 hours and 7 days straight for around 1 month +/-, pls do not join o&g fieldwork and offshore. you also need to type report with shivering hands or tired mind. that is not meant for you.

O&G plant shutdown is totally different from power plant shutdown. there are many incompetent crews (there are the fresh grads) coming from those contractors but there are also some good craftsengineers. that are the challenges. my observation of peninsular and east malaysia crafts very big gap in term of attitude. also from Qatar, Australia, China, etc.
