hi Everyone,
Want to ask, what field can an EE Eng degree venture into? Field Engineer or Instrumentation Eng? Any job opening out there for experienced (but not related to OnG; i guess considered fresh grad:P) for an EE background out there especially with current bad times in OnG?

I am highly suggesting you to join vendor or subcon related to O&G such as Siemens, ABB, Yokogawa and such.
*
Thanks for the advice mohdyakup. I will give those vendors/subcons a try...which of them are amonst the best for this (esp in terms of safety & career growth)?

What do you mean by safety? Job security? Jangan persoal abang. Cukurlah if they employed you. There is no such thing as job security during this slowdown period abang.

Pergi buat foundation in your early phase of O&G careers. Cukurlah.

Hi Mohdyakup,
Oh i'm not questioning on the job security, i'm very well aware of the OnG slowdown. I was asking on the job safety, physical safety of the employee as i heard from some of my friends that some companies has poorer safety than the others...

Ohh begitu. Pasal safety for ABB Siemens Yokogawa abang jangan bimbang kerana mereka sangat menitikberatkan keselamatan pekerja mereka. Apa yang abang perlu lakukan sekarang adalah untuk menebalkan muka dan hantar CV abang kepada mereka personally jika boleh. Tak salah for unconventional method CV submission jika abang betul2 serious untuk mencari peluang pekerjaan.

Because I have one friend using that unconventional method before. He approach at least 100 offices for those O&G subcon and vendor related. Of course he politely called the HR for appointment first then he submit his hardcopy CV. Pegi opis diorang pakai kapcai jer bang. Relaks jer.

Employer suka candidates yang mempunyai keberanian stainless steel bola dalam seluar mereka.

Jokes. But true.

Sekian terima kasih:)

I never heard about Omega before but when I saw about the requirement it is similar to ScopeTel and Kongsberg Marine product for PAGA and telecommunication system - famous for OSV's marine telecommunication system, radar, navigation and such.

There are various products for electronic, telecomm, PAGA system related to O&G. I think Omega could be a good start for you.

Perhaps abgkik can give further input because he is otai in floater.

To be honest, my knowledge in floater industry are very limited. I would like to have a solid floater EPCIC experience especially in FSO/FPSO hopefully one day.

I guess you will be dealing with a lot OSV player in SG such as Swiber, DORF, Nam Chong etc. FSO/FPSO builder would be like Modec, TeeKay, Bumi Armada, Yinson, BW-Offshore etc.

Thank you so much for sharing the information, at least now i know the potential prospect of the job. I'll heed your advice and give it a try!:)

Some recruiters are like that. They try to establish themselves as different and make you fill up questionnaires, try to profile you and see if you are this type or that type.

Frankly I don't see any point to that and in my opinion while there's some logic to it by doing psychological evaluations, i think it's more of a marketing gimmick because of the nature of more of these questions. I don't know the real person until spent at least a reasonable time with him (that's why i prefer face to face/phone interviews!)

Bro Yakup, sorry I tried calling an ex-colleague in Kerteh but he couldn't find anything. A contractor that used to work there also went back to home base in JB already.
*
I think so too actually, there's like 10 pages of all those profiling questions, i was thinking normally you would go about it oppositely whereby you shortlist then only let them fill this up haha...but thanks for sharing, much appreciated!:)

i know the company very well.. its a good place to start if you are fresh... many of the guys there are fresh and then they ventured out after few years...
they even got to travel a lot, anywhere they have projects (korea etc.)
they got a branch in jb, are going for the jb or singapore side?
*
Hi thanks for reply. The position is meant for Singapore side. Not yet even shortlist for interview, but so far the HR ask to fill up 8-10 pages worth of profiling questions, some i find really personal :S
