That reminded me on how to deal with different groups of people in the O&G:
(1) With PSC partner (PCSB) and MPM = need to be diplomatic but firm (sometimes those fellas ask for the skies, optimise, optimise development sampai pusing kepala. now with the low crude price environment, it is getting more intense)
(2) With O&G consultants = need to show respect of their engineering knowledge (but they got intimidated by me since I was one of them too, for a great deal of years and was already a lead engineer before I decided to join the client side), but need to push them to meet project schedule
(3) With fabricators and T&I contractors = no need to be diplomatic anymore; boleh jerit at them if they screw up or behind schedule, hahahahaha…. but really one need to be hard on them since that's the language they seem to understand. even the biggest fabricator needs to be pushed and shoved and guided to progress, such big inertia they have. The Pan Malaysian contract for T&I jobs has made the T&I contractors more complacent; they also needed to be pushed and guided to carry out jobs properly and on time….
(4) With vendors = need to remind them not to undermine their competitors, sometimes they get too cocky. but nowadays we are the KING and they are scrambling hard to get contracts from us to supply materials. now we tell them, cut 20% boleh? hehehehehe…. it's great to hear from drilling dpt that they could cut down their costs now that their contractors offered lower prices (boleh pulak this time!)..
who says life is rosy in O&G? lagi senang nak handle in-laws!
