Hey , definitely I am a newbie in oil and gas industry since I am a currently third year student in UMP. Here , i would like to ask for advice is it fine enough if i choose Kencana HL Lumut as my internship company ? I am keen to join oil and gas industry once I am graduated (summer of 2016). Any advice is sincerely much appreciated !

You gotta bercukur abang. Internship jer pun. Even if KHL bayar ciput intern elaun you must bercukur too.

Cukurlah.

For a start, this kind of question is a taboo for me. A big NO to ask. I don't like it.

Take this as good platform for you TO LEARN. BELAJAR. Make connection with peoples across project & construction & fabrication team.

Cukurlah.

Sikit-sikit nak kerja offshore. Kenapa everything good money mesti kerja offshore sahaja? Oil downturn sekarang banyak gila orang kerja offshore kena laid-off. Aku pun kena switch main project downstream sahaja sekarang sementara menunggu harga minyak kembali stabil. These day you have to be versatile and you must fit-in both Upstream & Downstream field.

Boleh tak anyone who read this tolong pergi baca previous V1 until V6 O&G Career thread? Mohon rajin abang2 sekalian. Benda ini telah dibincang banyak kali. Jangan manja sangat abang-abang. Membaca itu satu cabang ilmu.

for newbie, offshore je boleh buat duit bang. daily rate + basic tak sentuh sebab tinggal dekat barge. klau onshore, daily rate skit so kena berjimat skit lah.

mungkin ini lah yang newb2 punya view. kalau dah experienced 10 years, doesnt matter rasa nya since basic pon dah tinggi.

pendapat saya yang baru ni.

You need to learn from the current oil downturn. You need to have a specific skillset where you can fit-in both Upstream and Downstream easily. For example - Welding Engineer/QAQC Inspector/HSE and such.

orang2 yang nak masuk offshore cepat ni biasa nya nak quick and easy money je bang. after 5 years, cabut, duduk dekat client goyang kaki or bukak gerai burger tepi jalan.

but those who want to stay, kena ada skillset and tahan gaji rendah lah awal2 and belajar. oversea daily rate aku pon dibayar in rm. tahan aja lah mula2 ni.

I agree with your point and here is what I have been discussed last night with my friends masa lepak2 who are from PCSB PMO and others.

The dynamic of O&G now is unpredictable, be it Upstream and Downstream. Especially for Upstream sangat volatile, you need oil price around USD 80 per barrel above to kickstart a huge project. Yes you still can have a good margin around 60-80 USD per barrel untuk buat project but the return is not that good - because you need to satisfy your investor appetite. For example - Shell Prelude FLNG, PETRONAS FLNG1 & 2 & others.

But its totally different for a Downstream project. I found its a unique project to run a petchem/LNG/refinery/GTL etc although the price is low right now, but you can still run the project because feedstock price is very low and the price tag of major construction materials such as steel can be bought at bargain price. Yes I did have an experience working at Oil Refinery & LNG plant before but that is more to day-to-day operation and for my current job - this is my first turnkey construction petchem project at large scale. Even though the oil price jatuh sampai tahap 30-40 USD per barrel, downstream project still boleh jalan bro sebab associated cost to construction and fabrication memang murah gila sekarang.

I think those peoples from PSI-PETRONAS (MJSB) can share their view on this. They know much better than me because they are the one who monitor market price on weekly basis. My above fact could be wrong.

Aku sebenarnya pencacai dalam industry galian minyak dan gas ini. Cakap jer poyo. Ya saya poyo sebenarnya.

You're too soft. Lanyak kuat sikit.

I'm getting fed up reading youngsters' postings in here asking "the work environment" in O&G companies; I felt even nak muntah when an engineering student asks the same question for internship. Like the world owe them something big laaa to be wanting them to intern with them.

Just curious. Kenapa tak suka bila tanya pasal work environment? Is it because the asker indirectly want to know whether the job is stressful or not? hmm.gif

its more of a "when you don't have bargaining chips or leverage, stop being picky and just grab whatever you can get and bersyukur" sentiment

But what if the asker has already accepted the job and just want to know a little bit about his future workplace? I get that asking about money is uncalled for, especially in this o&g climate. But I don't see where asking about work environment counts as being tak bersyukur... Not trying to defend anyone, just an honest question
