A better way is to sync your contacts to Microsoft account and then add the Microsoft account to your new phone.

Besides a Microsoft account, you can sync to a google account as well, whichever you feel more comfortable with.

i am not sure about google account but i think should have this option

1. go to people/contact
2. click ... aka advanced option
3. Add a account
4. it will prompt all existing logged in account
5. tap and hold your google account
6. press sync
7. wait until it's done

PS: all contact when create must be stored in google/microsoft account instead of phone internal contact

there's a lot of ways actually.
i'll give you one:
1. open your outlook mail and look for People tab
2. click manage tab on top>export for outlook.com and other services
3. you will then automatically download a .csv file (microsoft excel format)
4. open your gmail account and look for Contacts tab
5. click More tab> import
6. choose the .csv file downloaded earlier
7. done

all your texts will also backup and sync along your contact.

also do make sure your Text Message Backup is On. ( open your text message > . . . > settings > Text Message Backup )
