Since Im not Melanau nor care about Melanau also I just stick to simple rule that all insect except locusts are haromm.

Back when I was in school days, we are taught about this in sekolah agama also, got supporting ulamak also say kenot but I forgot who and which of his book.

but again if argue about makanan tradisional blah blah then the history of how liqor become haromm (tldr to write not bother to kutbah here) can easily make that excuse invalid.

Aafaik only Maliki allow insect eating. (im pretty sure about this but correct me if im wrong). Syafi'i only allow certain like locusts.

Yes. If not explicitly stated by book, then mufti will discuss and decide. If mufti say so, then it become 'official' for people or gomen associated with him la.

Thats why mufti verdict is a very big deal.
