looking to replace the original thomson TG784n router with something better, any recommendations? im looking for a router that can do QoS and mainly to have gaming as priority.

something like netduma (https://netduma.com/), sadly i don't think it's available in msia.

i too want to replace the thompson router as it is too weak in the wifi signal and frequent dropped connection.

would it be as easy as getting an Asus router, replaced it and use back the internet wifi with phone?

i would still need to maintain the TM Huawei switch right?

THanks.

Really annoyed by Maxis call centre today, every time I call up to make a complaint for no internet, they ask me all
the light on the modem and thompson wifi. The call center kids said they want to make a report.

What the hell they need to ask stupid question like this ??

They think I disconnect the wire and then make prank call to Maxis for fun. So idiotic these Maxis fool...

Tomorrow I return all my Thomson gateway and cancel my Maxis home fibre for good.. mad.gif

what I can see is that the Maxis management find out that the best way to earn money is to refuse service in
an indirect way like asking so much details for an on site check that the Maxis user either give up and forget
their maxis home fibre than to try very hard to get these service poeple to come.

Maxis profit and still maintain high class status... consumer x service. They do their commercials too when you
call up 2 minutes of their bullshit before you get connected via telephone.

The Maxis Management must be thinking that the more rubbish they record in the phone and play back to the
consumer, the more consumer will buy or upgrade maxis rubbish...

No point using Maxis because there is no internet for 1 weeks...No Way I paid for internet I cannot enjoy !

So far the Maxis callcentre is the most idiotic moron...!! Hope you tell your Maxis friend this !

Unifi recently send people to change the power adapter but Maxis ? nothing, Ask them to change the 3 year old
Thompson wireless hub they refuse as if it is mean to last forever, these Maxis moron are really one of a kind.

This TM also cannot understand why they must have 1 hub to 1 house for Maxis and Unifi to share.
If the hub and terminal have problem, maxis blame unifi and unifi blame maxis or maxis technical people has
to wait for Unifi technician to come to solve the problem..But not all house are able to install the hub in the centra
location ! so reception would be slower in some corners etc.

So Maxis contractor just connect their PC to the Thompson wireless hub and let you see the speed is up to par then
after that you complaint about poor reception that is your business..!

For the customer service, Its pretty much SOP to check the status of the LED lights first. There was one time my AUTH led was blinking while LINK was off on the ONT. Called them, told them I had Internet problem and the AUTH led was blinking. Straight away he said he will arrange for on site because it is already indicative of possible physical issue (fiber, modem, etc). Took less than a minute to open the ticket. So I feel that part of the process is smooth and not waste time checking other symptoms.

Of course, to reach the customer service rep in the first place, need to listen to their promotions, they should seriously get rid of them. Just makes customers more frustrated.

ALSO, seem to be issues when Maxis coordinates with TM for on site troubleshooting, since you need TM guys on site regardless. Causes a lot of delay if there is miscommunication between them. I know Maxis broadband has a best effort SLA but it is still back to back with Unifi SLA. So if you want faster on site support, better go with Unifi unless can tolerate some more delay.

Sorry double post.

I actually managed to do away with the Thompson router and used an Asus wifi router instead.

I used this method since I have the Huawei HG850a BTU to get the Huawei to handle VOIP.

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2710206

Worked for about close to a year but somehow the VOIP wasn't functioning anymore. No idea what changed on Maxis side since I did not change anything.

I got fed up going back and forth with Maxis tech and insisted that I have my set up back using the Thompson router. I wasn't going to do additional work and at the end I got a Cisco SPA122 ATA to handle the VOIP connection. Never had a problem since.  wink.gif
If you want fast and stable wifi connection, ditch the Thompson router.
*
Cool! Always wondered if that was possible. How did you connect the ATA to the custom router? Is it inline between the router & ONT? What config did you need to dial the SIP server?
