Dividend will be added to the total units you have. After that, up to you whether you want to withdraw or you want to keep.  icon_rolleyes.gif

noob question from me

for variable price funds, does asnb give out dividend every year as well? or we only get profit when we sell it higher than purchase price?

They give dividend of about 7%. Your profit and loss is calculated on final sum of nav (price of units + dividends given).
*
purchase/selling price is based on nav right? and the nav will drop after they announce the dividend, is that right? any calculation sample would be appreciated.

(sorry for all these noob questions. is there any website that I can refer to read more about regarding buying and selling?)

NAV of the day you invest - 1.1800
Amount of MYR invested - 10000
Units in hand - 8474.58
___________________________________
Dividend pay on the financial year end - 7.0%
Dividend - 593.22 MYR
NAV of the day - 1.1300
Units paid - 524.97

Regarding the chart above, the dividend paid is 7% of the 8474.58 units right which is 593.22 units. just wonder how come 593.22 units = rm593.22
Total units in hand - 8999.55

Dividend is on the PAR value/NAV price on Issue Date i.e. RM1.00

U have 8474.58 units

Your dividend is
8474.58 x RM1.00 x 7% = RM593.2206

RM593.2206/RM1.13 = 524.97

I see. thanks for the clarifications. really cleared much of my doubt. but in that way, this variable priced fund doesn't look really bad if they do give out 5-7% divided yearly.

just the 5% service charge + gst

When u bought at 1.18, your dividend is NOT 7%... doh.gif

Similarly, let's say if the fund went to 1.5000, someone invest, and then next day say "5% dividend!"

U don't get RM1.50 x 5%...
U get RM1.00 x 5%...
AND...
Dividend in the context of mutual funds (yes, variable price ASN fund IS a mutual fund) is just cutting your mooncake into smaller slices (u used to have one round mooncake, when dividend is declared, they're just cutting it into, say 8 pieces, and then tell u "nah, here's one slice for u...ini dividen!")

There is ZERO wealth effect.
*
true. but does it work the reverse? let's say we buy at 1 unit at nav 0.9. dividend is based on rm1 as well?

lol. nice analogy. but at the right time, we can get 1 round mooncake plus 1 tiny slice right?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO vmad.gif

Use another analogy...

FSM regulars love this... tongue.gif

U invest RM100,000 in a chicken farm
U start with 100 adult chickens

Some time later, u have 100 adult chickens and 400 baby chickens

People value your farm at RM200,000 now
RM200,000 is the CURRENT VALUE of your investment

Then NEXT DAY, your genius farm manager one day tells u...

"Bos! I managed your farm well, now I hereby declare a dividend to u..."

*push a cart loaded with 200 baby chickens to u*

U happily receive it in a grand ceremony...

After the ceremony, workers throw back the 200 baby chickens into the farm...

Get the idea? sweat.gif
*
I see. i'm not challenging you or anything. just wanna understand a bit more.

so if I decide that I want out, I want to sell off the 100 adult chicken and 400 baby chicken, I will get the 200k right? or am I thinking wrong again.

What I was trying to say was...

Dividend or no dividend, makes no difference at all

It's just a DECLARATION

Your investment, thru time, has grown from RM100,000 to RM200,000.

No declare dividen, it is RM200,000.

Declare dividen, it is STILL RM200,000.
*
lol. yes. was about to say I understand what u mean already.

but then, if my investment fell from 100k to 90k, dividend makes a difference?

here comes another view of this thing...

After some time...

Your adult chickens are mostly infertile...only 40 babies are born. Let's say a baby is worth RM250, adult is worth RM1K

20 adults had died of diseases....

Your genius farm manager can still proudly DECLARE a dividen of 40 baby ayam to u...

But in actual fact your investment has fallen in value...

80 adults x RM1K = RM80,000
40 babies x RM250 = RM10,000
TOTAL = RM90,000

I see. really learnt a lot of things from you today. thanks! notworthy.gif

while I support freedom of speech, but I have no idea why dreamer who keep calling others dummies. I think he has made his point but to repeatedly say the same things - no idea why is he forcing his ideas on others.

if he's so smart, he would have already been Malaysia's top 10 richest person. but the fact that he isn't, I think many who listened to him has lost more money than those who invested in asnb. he keep saying this and that but it hasn't happened at all since a few years back.

Folks,

Wake up!!

The urban voters that protested THE GOVERNMENT are THE SAME ONE that give more money for THE GOVERNMENT to spend via ASx.

In summary,

A) The urban voters cannot vote out THE GOVERNMENT.

B) The urban voters give MORE MONEY via ASx to THE GOVERNMENT to bride the rural voters.

And, somehow the urban voters have THE AUDACITY to say that they want change??
