QUOTE(MassimoTuna @ Mar 18 2015, 07:52 PM)

Wow, that was deep. I guess what you were saying is that a lot of believers today who claimed to love God is when they are in worldly peace. When a true trial strikes them, their love towards God can be easily shaken and thus, lose faith in Him.

I do agree in this matter. All those so-called "loving" and "touching" feelings won't hold us forever. Such emotional-dependent believer, one trial or the feeling that God is not there will cause him/her to lose faith. How do we combat this then?

1) We must learn and train to defend our faith. That art of defense is called Apologetics. (read Mere Christianity by CS Lewis // On Guard by William Craig)

2) After item (1) is accomplished, you will learn that the God truly exists and in no way you can deny His existence. Then, read this out aloud and remember it with your heart (Deuteronomy 6:5 - You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.)

All that being said, I admit I have my own struggle as well. As a single with strong sexual drive, I struggled with masturbation (pray for me  icon_question.gif ). As a guy who is surrounded by non-Christian friends, I tend to be swear a lot (thanks to God's strength all these years, I have greater self control now). Well, human is not perfect and we, Christians certainly are not. We struggle everyday but also grow everyday. Ask God for forgiveness whenever you sin and don't be arrogant to think that God will not forgive you. There is nothing that God cannot forgive. Jesus paid a huge price for that by dying on the cross. Lastly, don't take God's forgiveness and mercy for granted (see Romans 6).
*
IMO, there is a need for in these days, to have warm, intimate, close affection between you and God. The seeker in Song of Songs 1:4 said, "Draw me." She did not say, "Draw us." Draw me is personal. We want a drawing from the Lord that is His personal and affectionate doing. We want Him to be with us in a personal and affectionate way.

Just to say "Lord, I love you" moment by moment daily do make a difference. A simple, "Lord Jesus, You are altogether lovely! O Lord Jesus, You are altogether lovely!" biggrin.gif

Apologetics do have their use but tend to be a lot in the mind. It is like vaccination or inoculation ... it is best given or very effective to healthy individuals, i.e. backsliding Christian tend to be less effective. sweat.gif But to generalise this will be too much.

To know the kalam cosmological argument or ontological necessity of God's existence can be helpful ... but nothing more helpful than loving and enjoying Christ biggrin.gif

I don't know how to tell him actually. Jesus is a really touchy subject. Talking anything about God brings up a ton of past hurts. If the person sudah stress I might just make them even more afraid.

How does Christians cope with losing a loved ones? Anyone here may want to share their experiences?

Now I'm still in denial and angry at the same time.

At the same time I would like to share the gospel with my sister and younger brother.

I know they can't cope (So do I) and won't accept it yet, but I want to tell them the promise made by Jesus for the believers.

My father have given a lot to us. My only regret is that I didn't do enough (I think) for the family.

The amount of support and encouragement we have received since last week has been unbelievable.

It really give us motivation to carry on with our lives.

Especially for my younger brother, I think now he has bigger responsibility for the family. He needs to take care of mum and learn to grow up.

I thank God that he has given me of wonderful father, who's always been there for the family, who never give up on his children, who never complaint, for always giving us the best education, giving us fatherly advice, never scold us (my mum always giving us a hard time vmad.gif ).

Even though I lost my earthly father, I will never lose my Heavenly Father.

Weil mein papa der beste ist!

My heartfelt condolences.

I am surprised. Just last month you were enjoying your Cambodian trip with your dad.

Hope everything is ok for you and your family. May you be under God's rest and comfort.

Thanks. Now I don't have "beer buddy" anymore.

I learned to appreciate what I have in life.

I hope you are getting better. I be praying for you that you will find every comfort and peace in God.

I almost had a similar experience 3 years ago, when I almost lost my father to subdural hematoma due to an accident when he knocked his head on the corner of a opened, sharp corner of a cabinet door, while going up the ladder (to take some things out from the cabinet), but early medical intervention and surgery saved his life.

I'll be lying if I say I'm fine. But I'll take comfort in God's ever assuring promise.

Thank God for your dad's medical intervention. So the doctor removed the excess blood right?

I'm bloody stupid. Of course the doctor removed the excess blood. Sorry, I'm not thinking right.

just an excerpt frm an article i was reading "Satan IS the author of confusion. Do you feel hopeless, depressed, anxious and panicked? Do you feel as if there is no sense in trying to live a normal life, get a job, go to school, or make a difference in somebody’s life? Do you feel like darkness is oppressing you and you cannot climb out of the pit? That darkness has a name: Satan or Lucifer. "

i understand ur apprehension about sharing Christ. so pray b4 hand & ask, wat do u do next? & then see whr the spirit leads, i guess.

thr's really no cookie-cutter approach to this.

Yes, this would be a very difficult time for you and your family. I believe though, that you are a much stronger person than I am, and you will overcome and make your dad proud of you.

Hope the memory verses below can be of help:

Matthew 11:28
Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."

Isaiah 43:2
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

Psalm 119:50
Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.

Psalm 61:2
From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety

Psalm 23:4
Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

Yes my father suffered internal bleeding in his cranium for 1 week. Sent him to Universiti Hospital, they wrongly diagnosed my father has having a flu. So I thought he was having a stroke because he didn't tell us about his accident, I didn't believe the UH doctor, instead sent him to one of Malaysia's best private hospital, they immediately did a MRI on his brain..and detected the bleeding. The surgery was done on that day itself because the neurosurgeon said had it been one or two more days, it would have been fatal.
*
Why do you think I am a stronger person than you?

But thanks for the bible verses.

Oh my, Remind me NOT to go to University Hospital. Sorry, life is too precious to waste.

Off topic a bit. For those who watch football, I'll think this season, it'll be a showdown between Bayern vs Barcelona.

I hate Bayern. So Barcelona be the champion.

No worries.

Universiti Hospital brings back a lot of memories to me...like the time when I woke up in the middle of my tonsilitis operation.

I am glad your father is a believer. Yes he is saved...glory hallelujah.

Try saying something like this.

Hey you know, I know you may not believe in what I believe in but Jesus has been real in my life and when I don't know what to do, I turn to Him for guidance and hope.

It's just temporary, you'll meet your dad up in Heaven one day, technically, you didn't lose him.

And you can't lose your Heavenly Father. doh.gif
