It's like human lah... we eat fish we touch fish, we eat chicken we also can touch chicken mah.... so what are mealworms? Nothing to fear also, if scared than use spoon or forceps lah. Simple as that.

This mealworm geli thing has been repeated SO MANY times... and it is always the same answer.

my mottled is soo so thin lar....feed everyday also like that. i tink he is too hardworking, always go exercise. i hardly see him off the wheel.

besides, it seems that one of my campbell alwayz steal the food of the WW. I juz make a guess coz the campbell is quite fat compared to the WW. Also, i alwayz hear the squiek sound. can i solve this prob by providing a larger cage?

the mottled aquarium only have a wheel and a water bottle. is it too plain for him? what can i add?
*
You can add old glass cups or some cardboard box to hide...

As for the other problem, yes, a bigger, I would say wider cage would do best loh. And give more food in the feeding bowl.

so basically a wire cage or aquarium better? the campbell in the wire cage climb here and there as if no tomorrow.....
*
Well, it depends on you. A wire cage is good coz good ventilation... bu it can be quite dirty with all the shavings flying around. The good thing about wire cages is that you can attach extentions or other plastic stuff... wheels and all sorts...

For tank, less dirty, it won't stress the hamster with cage biting... personally I like tanks heheh... can fill up with more wood shavings and not that messy.

How big? You can make it have some nice levels... get metal racks or cardboard box... quite many people in gerbil forums do such tanks...

btw i stumble unto this website associate for small animals.it state clinic under which state you are staying...
cool

http://www.msava.org/vets.php

You also found that site? Actually, small animals means dogs and cats also included. The vets that open clinics are stated as small animals clinics but not all knows how to treat real small animals. It is only a term for domestic household pets....

You can feed fruits everyday.... well, just small bits. If you only feed an apple or carrots as a staple diet, sure it will get diarheaa and diabetes... but small bits a day is healthy for dwarf hamsters. I feed mine all small bits of apples and carrots everyday. As long a bit is ok.

Choy Sum is good, bak choy also can but it has more water content that choy sum so feed little of that lah.

dam, got posoined......

at last bought two spot hammy......
Btw, how much does a robovski and a spot cost? Just wanna know whether i bought it cheap o not.
And which shop sells hamster accessories cheap and nice?? (Kl area lah)
*
Robo and a spot? The spotted, does it look like the 1st page hamsters? Robos should be housed with only their own kind, Robos... never mix different dwarf hamsters with Robos... robos are the smallest of hamsters, mixing them with other hamster breeds can be... well, dangerous... a campbell can kill a dwarf... a Syrian can easily kill any dwarf.

its something like the above, it moves slow, can easily catched.... I bought 2 spot hamster, i din buy robo as they r more expensive, haha.....
The lady told me that both robos and spot seldom bite compare with dwarf. For ur info, i bought them in a psr mlm, along with the food, wood shavings, a wire cage, and 2 hamsters(male)..... at first i would like to buy 1 male and 1 female, but i scared they mate and pop out babies alot, then i jialat loh......can hamster be spayed or neutered?? how much???
Maybe later i can adopt some more from LYN members...... rclxms.gif

BTW, how often should i feed them?put refill every time the bowl is empty??or like dpgs and cats, twice a day....how much do they eaT??? rclxub.gif
*
You hamsters got long tail or not? That picture is a chinese hamster, it has a longer tail, compare to most hamsters, their tails damn short, like 1cm while chinese hamsters got longer tails and a more mousy look.

Take pics of your hamsters lah.

Hamsters cannot be spayed or nuetered, too small and malaysian vets no experience on doing it on small animals like hamsters, damn risky hahah... Good that you bought 1 males thumbup.gif less breeding thumbup.gif

I feed mine according to their bowls, empty then I refill everyday. Remember to have good water supply for them.

wat u mean molted campbells??
The seller told me that they r only around 2 months old. Whenever i put my finger in the cage, they do nibble, but mayb they're still small, it does'nt hurt. When i put them on my palm, they seldom nibs, but once a while they will. What they always do is they poo on my hand..... doh.gif

I'll try to post some pics later, so that the pros can identify my hammies......

Mottled is a colour pattern...

This is a normal mottled...

A russian campbell is the normal type of dwarf sold... quite rare to find Chinese hamsters especially in pasar malam... coz the only place with chinese hamsters is Pets Wonderland petshops... and it's a rare sight now...

The other types of dwarfs are russian winter whites and roborovskis.

Hamsters acting like that is normal. They just feel insecure... not all hamsters will take food from your hand. They still see your hand as a something like a big monster trying to grab them...

Slowly tame them. Hand feed them in their cage first, let them get to know that your hand supplies food, soon they will become tamer and won't poo on your hand so much.

You sure the tail? It could be the butt.... coz it happened to my friend, blood came out of the butt... died from internal bleeding caused by infection inside.

Then he hurt himself. Just was the tail with some saline water or weak solution of dethol... then if possible, dry the tail. if the cut is bad, just apply a thin layer of antibiotic cream.

This is why quite a number of keepers and breeders use tanks and storage boxes... last long and no need worry about rust. Cheaper also.
