Got back a Z Ultra ( S'pore set) from my relative. Is a month old and it comes default with 4.4.4 ( 14.4.A.0.108)
This is my 3rd XZU after the other previous two ( a 3G and LTE unit)
This set apparently feels smoother with the newer firmware
I hd zero issues rooting and installing CWM on previous 2 units but ran into a lot of problems trying on this unit
All rooting methods proposed at XDA all failed. Finally managed to root it using a solution I found from XDA Z2 forum - using a Root_Restore by Bin4Ry. It was fast and easy
However till now I failed to install CWM/TRP using the default recommended Dual Recovery software. Downloaded TWRP manually and tried to flash it from fastboot and flash shown successful but phone just won't boot to TWRP recovery mode. Tested flashing another proposed adv-stock-v4.img recovery file and similar problem too
I am still hunting for a solution. Any other methods is welcome and willing to test it out

welcome back to the bandwagon, uncle benny. rclxms.gif

have you tried this? the method involves downgrade, root, push recovery and update.
*
The listed formware is same as nine. No downgrading is involved
I don't quite understand it. I had downloaded the stripped version and is only 28 MB !! Dare not tried it
I will try to download the bigger version about 990 MB of it
You mean if I use flash tool, the firmware will ended up with root and recovery installed ??

I finally manage to install CWM recovery. What I did was using flashtool and flash the stripped down ( 28 MB only) 108 ftf file
Than I rebooted phone and installed CWM through the dual recovery software. This time it went perfectly well without any issue
Did a nandroid backup first
Time to test out custom rom - will try first AICP

Still unable to flash any custom rom as each time error on both CWM n TWRP " cannot mount system"
Still unable to find a solution yet
This morning I upgraded its default 108 firmware to latest French 118 through flashtool of the ftf file. All data intact
But needed root againnand I used same method as before. Tested again CWM/TWRP same issue cannot mount system. Had never faced such problem in previous 4.4.2 XZU or any other Android phones
Immediate benefit of the new firmware the white background is brilliantly white without any tinge of yellowishness

Lucky if we can even get 5.02 n 5.1 is still very new
Well Sony had promised it. Just be patient n wait for it
Seriously lollipop is not that great besides a nicer looking interface. Xposed mod doesn't work too well on 51 while is bearable on 5.02
Sharing My experience using Lollipop on Nexus6
However we as users will always want the latest firmware n.just pray it wont be worse than 4.4.4

Did u experience memory leak issue on 5.0.2?
*
Seriously I don't really know what is memory leak
Phone had been working well since 5.01 till 5.1 on all stock n custom roms
I had never ever bother to check ram usage in all my Androids. These I feel only for those paranoid. Just allow the OS to manage ram I always believe
I don't believe in using memory utilities, task killers n all such stuffs

My problem with current XZU is failure to flash any custom roms. Had always wanted to test out the various Lollipop custom roms but each time I encounter " unable to mount system" error. First time ever facing such an issue in all my experience flashing stuffs. Both the CWM and TWRP display similar errors. Never faced such issues before in my pevious 2 XZU ( 3G) and LTE model.
Put the query in 2 threads at XDA and no respond yet..still waiting and finding solution!!

I believe your Z Ultra is a latter batch. Those that comes with .108 firmware by default is difficult to push files. Have you try downgrading, root and flash pre-root package?
*
I tried downgrading but each flash phone cannot boot up successfully - keep on rebooting. I checked and most of the lollipop roms specified must use 108 or 118 base rom. All 4.4.4 roms ( before 108) and even 4.4.2 roms failed

Just flash my ftf Latin file and now waiting for phone to reboot. Now at stage of "Android is upgrading....". I chose to keep all data
Notice there is already available a Singapore version ftf file:

https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B_yP2fUmqL6K...export=download

Will give my comments on this Lollipop later today. Will attempt to root it first using "Bin4ry_v36 Root_with_Restore program. Apparently all older programs doesn't work and body had tried this/ This program works very well on 4.4.4 ( 118 firmware)

I finally managed to root lollipop firmware by using prfcreator software
All these while by recovery always failed to install rom with unable to mount system error
This time somehow I manage to reflash the dual recovery zip n than it was alright
I had earlier downgraded back to 4.4.2 firmware but flashing failed to reboot phone making it a dead phone. Reflash rom 4.4.4 ( b118) using flashtool revived it
Overall very happy with lollipop. Whole phone is now much slicker n smoother. Don't see any significant differences in battery usage vs 4.4.4

Any1 get to install recovery or root yet??
I install the MY ftf but no recovery....
*
There is no root solution yet n hence no possible recovery for Lollipop
Best is use the prfcreator software n just create a fladhable zip lollipop file . Very simple n fast n I took only a minute to create the file combining the lollipop ftf file n superzip n recovery zip ( optional). Than simply use recovery to flash it
However you need downgrade back to kitkat or jb in order to have CWM or TWRP recovery installed

currently stuck at this stage n i even left it for 6 hours, still cannot go the next stage. any idea what is wrong with it
*
Just redo it n probably is Internet connection
Such has happened before on my previous Xperia Z

Those still waiting don't miss the opportunity to upgrade to lollipop. It is indeed a very worthwhile upgrade. The phone is now much slicker n smoother than kitkat. I had yet to face any bugs n if there are I had never noticed it yet.

What is " app store from processing with screen off". I don't think I had ever seen such in my Xzu or any other Android I had used
Only android processing I had seen.is when you bootup after installing custom rom or installed new apps. The latter is very fast n takes less than 1-2 secs

i think i wanna get this phone over redmi note 4g to replace my s3

but as precautions i wanna ask you guys first lar
-do this phone get updates regularly?it seem only got lolipop update kan?

No. Updates are lesser

-do it troublesome to not have that flash during night shoot or low light conditions?

Yes. Is hopeless with very low light

-r the 8mp and 2mp camera still good enuff to take pics?

Depends on you. Overall camera is nothing great to talk about. Sony never well known for its camera shots quality

-r the big size screen easy to use?

Depends on you. I m perfectly comfortable while many users find their limit is usually 5 to 5.5 inches only

-do it heat up during heavy gaming/heavy internet usage?(problem that destroy my s3)

No

-do it charge slow since it didnt come with fast charging specs and its a big size battery phone?

No. About 2+ hours n is decently fast enough

-can you last it a day with only browsig the net and non heavy gaming?

Easily n no problems

I make a mistake putting in a nano sim through a micro sim adapter. Previously i could take out the sim tray but lately the sim tray was stuck
Does anybody here know whether service center can assist to remove it in a day? I will have to make a trip to KL to do this. I think they would need to remove tje back to do it
And cost of doing such ??
