Check this out guys... Jus wanna show you my casing

I've stated this case mod for quite a while now... jus that i have been busy with my studies so i can't fully focus on it till my semester ends. Then thigns will get rolling again. But i'll show what i've done so far... I will not show an image of how it'll look like in the end. (KEEP THE SUSPENSE- IF IT COMES OUT COOL!) I'll show you guys most of the step by step i did but not all as i am lazy to take the photos all the time. To busy and rushing to do the mods....

Once i got my casing... i stripped it but naked... here's a pic of it..

Once i stripped it naked... i started to plan. Now some of these images are jus for planning... was not too sure how i wanted to case too look like. I might change my idea last minute.. so these are jus teasers...

This is the front door belonging to the front panel area...



So... i did the front first since it was the easiest...





In the end... it looked really nice. Not too bad for a noob working with a dremel.

Wow... nice casing mates. You made it really simple but nice. I'm planning to do mine the same colour lighting as yours.. hence the name "blue inferno".
Anyways... I'm going through my exams now so i cant do much work on my casing yet... but i will get alot done really fast once my exam is done. So please visit more often after the 11th. That's when i will do work on this baby... hopefully by the end of this month... it'll be ready.

Okay... i wanna apologize to you guys cuz my left panel planning pic got corrupted.. dunno how it happened but it did. Anyways... i did the cutting in a few hours after i did my front door panel area. This is how the left panel turned out. I haven't smoothen the edges yet... hopefully you got a rough idea how it'll look like in the end.

Great!!! now my right side panel pic is also corrupted.. f***in camera... haye.. anyways.. i did the cutting... now it's 11:30PM.. couldn't sleep so i jus finished up the right panel and passed out once it was done. Here's how it looks like.







The flames on the left side is for ventilation. Later i'll do a small window with mesh wire for it. The top right hole it for the PSU. I'll be doing a small PSU laters where the psu will have windows and the light from it will come out from the panel slot. Hopefully it'll look good... now only still imagining it.

Dude, pls use bigger pix. It's very, very annoying having to download every single pic n go tru that imageshack pop up add for all ure pix. I end up not bothering to look at the pix in the end coz the pop up is just so annoying n it takes ages to DL each pic too. If u use larger pix we can just open the page, sit back n wait for the entire page to load up. Don't worry about size of pics. I allow pic size of up 800x600 n even 1024x768 if u need to show sum detailed shots.

Hey guys... here's my latest update... sorry for the delay. I have been bust with helping my mom since she jus came out of operation so i couldn't work 100% on my casing.. but i did get alot done. Not to bad actually but still the rough layout of what's to come. here's a few updates i have made...

I want to make a top compartment area for my CPU. This is what i came out with... it's not yet complete.. still undergoing major changes.

My top panel for my case after cutting it... phew.. alot of work..









Using Epoxy to stick the top compartment to my top panel.

I also managed to play with bondo. Gr8 stuff... alot of fun but also alot of hard work... this is jus one layer of it.. i have to still put more. that i will do laters... for now.. gotta help my mom...







That's all for now.. for the top compartment... needs more bondo work but laters. I've also done some small work on my switch panel face plate. It's not complete yet as well... jus some spare time stuff i did..

These are the right panel window frames i was talking about earlier. They're not totally complete yet... my idea is kinda changing... planning not to make a window.. instead a window with bondo work. Still thinkin.....

Does anyone know where i can get UV male molex connectors... as you can see i really need them to go with my Y-cables... and other cables as well.. please help

Hey guys... i was so bored jus helping my parents pack... i thought of doing atleast something. So i thought of changing the look of the front panel. Didn't really like it and to get rid of the fron USB compartment as well. So i used my new best friend... bondo to do the changes. Came out okay cuz i messed up abit at the USB compartment. The Bondo dried out faster then expected cuz i wanted to take photos... won't do that again... hehe... anyways.. here's what i got done.

wow... now it's been a long time since i came here... sorry guys but there won't be any updates any time soon. I got in trouble from the condo i'm staying in cuz i'm making too much noise. So what i can do is jus do it once i get back home in cheras. Which is not always so please be patient okie guys... i'll guarantee something awesome... I'm also having problems with my modding... didn't plan it properly so got some few road blocks.... so once i've solved that as well... i'll be back on track. ~~Peace out~~

Update plz.

Okay guys... after a long long long sem... i finally have some time to continue with my modding... i jus started yesterday and i need to start kicking everything into gear... my ideas have also changed so i'll explain over again as much detail as possible with the changes i have descided... starting with the top compartment..
after sanding for nearly a whole day... jus imagine.. all done manually as well.. this is what i came out with...

-sanded the back first... now i have exhaust areas for my 2x 80mm fans...







-the front top sanded and primed... gotta see if more sanding is required.. that i'll do later...





-the side of the top compartment was suppose to be covered by perspex but instead... i'm covering it with some metal sheets with holes in them. It's from my frens casing and looks pretty cool...

Is it costly? Is that Spray Sandable Primer? Can't find in hardware shop. Where could it be purchased?

- Holes that are drilled into the bottom of my case... did all four sides...



- Frames for the 120mm fans... for back and bottom of casing..

Added on May 19, 2007, 7:55 pmOkay... since my ideas have changed.... i am going to add my switch bay onto the top front area of the casing... but... before i can even do the switch bays... i wanna hide the wires so that they are no visible... so i'm making a cover for the inside to hide the cables..

- Cut a U channel for the cables to go through... that's the front area, primed to see if anything looks uneven or what so ever...



- rounded the front so that it can slide into the top area with no problem...

Okay... so i have this problem with my hands or palms being sweaty.. so i descided to make this external fan area with usb ports. The fan will be used to stop my hands from sweating and the usb ports will be used for convenience...

-I found this 80mm fan frame from my frens casing and got rid of the mounts around it...reinforced it to make it stronger.



-Gonna use this baby for my fan...



- the usb



-Now making a cover frame for the USB area... i wanna cover it then make the base for the fan...







-Now all the pieces are glued together as a complete frame...



Back to the front area... i jus bondoed the 120mm fan frame and waiting for it to dry... then i will sand it smooth...

the pics on post 13 was my previous idea... suppose to the out-take area... but i thought i would be really unnecessary to add 3 out-take on the top and 2 more above the psu... waste of fans... now i will probably have jus one out-take on the top cover, 2 above the psu.... that way it's not too congested...

jsut my idea bro..wont it be wasted as the air u take in straight away been suck out at the back?..coz the air didnt cycle inside ur casing first b4 suck out...can get wat i mean?..mayb u can take the air infront, hot air will go up to top of ur case then will be suck out by ur top compartment

Yeah... true.. but then you have to understand... there is also one 120mm fan on the 5.25 bays which will blow in air as well... not all the air that goes in can be taken out by the rear fan... another thing is that i have one more 120mm which will be placed on the bottom of the case to push air up... so the air will circulate... what i want is the hot air from pc to be sucked out from the rear case and the psu hot air to be sucked out by the 2 exhaust above it... the center top is the left over hot air that can't be taken out by the rear fans... that's the initial idea lar.. once it's done... i'm gonna try a test using dry ice or colored smoke to show how is the air circulation.. that's if can i can. See how it turns out okay...

Now i have an exam on Wednesday so i can't mod till the end of it... but i couldn't resist and i took a small break jus to do some minor things

- sanded down and bondoed again the front area... looks like it's coming together slowly...







- Now, since i'm making this usb port with fan for cooling my sweatie palms... i jus cut a space out of the foams for the usb area and the fan area, glued it on with PVC glue and left it to dry completely...



- Now doesn't that look nasty!!

I hope that the casing will come out gempak... but we will never know until i get this casing done We'll see... anyways... more minor updates, was out the whole day and really tired... but still managed to finish one part.. i've done the back casing exhaust area... bondoed and sanded, make the 120mm hole... jus need to drill the screw areas out.

Added on May 27, 2007, 11:21 amCools, i jus did some more modding... haven't slept the whole night. Busy watching anime till now. I managed to bondo and prime again 'n again untill i got what i wanted. I jus did the front of the casing cover and the rear exhaust area...
For the front area, i planned before to make the fan look like a turbine but unfortunately the parts i was looking for to make a turbine can't be found here in Malaysia. It is a spare part for air plane modeling, the cone... where it would be placed on the fan and voila! a turbine.. but instead, i had to make one from scratch. Using only styrofoam and polly putty mixed with bondo. Sand and bondo until i got the shape i wanted... check it out...

-Sorry i don't have the process where i cut the styrofoam into shape but here's the part after it... applying the poly putty...





-Then bondo and more sanding...





Now that is done, time to show the front case cover and rear exhaust...

yeah man... and also my grand master gave me the idea... MNPCTECH... they have the best mods i've seen so far. They also provide ideas and so on...

impressive mod.. can feel you put lot of effort bondoing your casing..

em btw.. what is bondo? 1st time see.. something like sillica or what? after hardened will be like metal? the curve shape for ur initially box shaped housing on top of your casing also use bondo?

Yeah mates, bondo is like fiberglass. Mostly used for custom auto body parts, like for e.g. Skyline R34 bodykit, they use bondo as base, then fiberglass as finish. I want to buy fiberglass but it's way too expensive... bondo will do jus fine.. once it hardens, it's as hard as metal but can be shaped using sand paper 80grit. higher than that won't work cuz you really need something that'll eat the bondo. If you want to try it, go to ikano power center and at the hardware store you can get 2 can sizes. Small and big, the big one is about RM120 if i'm not mistaken.

It took me ages but i was satisfied with the end look of it... i even sprayed primer onto it to see if there are any parts of it that needed more sanding or work to be done. Here is what the top looks now... i even included a pic of what primer i used. It's cheap but it's really good... got a good hold onto nearly any surface.

Bro, interested to know where did you get those mesh panels.
Interested in getting some for my upcoming mod as well.

Oh those... i got from my frens casing. The one that looks like a G5. He wanted to throw away but instead... i took it. Now i'm using it as spare parts cuz i have another project coming up once this is complete.
If you have the cash... you can get mesh panels from the auto shop in 1Utama... they have it but quite expensive at it is mainly for cars. Who knows, maybe you can get it at a nice price.


Now, for the whole day... i've been trying to fix mistakes on the casing... after spraying primer. The mistake stood out like a sore thumb, so now i have to jus cover it with bondo again and the final sanding will take place later on tonight. One thing i hate most, if you want the primer to set in well.. you gotta leave it overnight.. crap*

Well... finally fixed the mistakes... here are some pics after sanding it... tomorrow i'm gonna spray the primer.. to tired to do it now...

Phew .... after one week of practical training... i never thought i could be any happier to get back to modding. During the week... i did minor modding since i had to wake up at 6 to goto work and come back home at 6... very tiring. Anyways... this is what i managed to do day by day...

Now it's time to cut the bottom 120mm hole and holes for more leg support. My casing will have 4 leg supports to keep the casing suspended above the floor....

-While cutting the holes for the leg... i ran into a road block. Apparently my calculation was wrong and the hole was hitting the HDD cage. So i'm stuck for the moment... thinking of doing some major raping to the case.

Okay... so i'm gonna take the cage out... do some alterations to it. since it's coming out.. might as well improve the air flow by making more gaps and so on. Anyways... took the rivets out easily... check it out..
