Quite a lot of people PM me about is that worth to upgrade their phone from Lumia 920 to Lumia 830

Or

Should i go for 830 instead of 930? (because there is quite huge price gap in between two flagship devices)

So now i would like to make a quite comparison about both of the devices on

1. Overall Hardware quality
2. few photo comparison

This review will update from time to time as i just get this devices around 2 days smile.gif

Sorry for broken manglish biggrin.gif and i am not really good at writing proper essay (most probably will provide TL;DR point form with a lot of photo) laugh.gif

Updating....

First impression (What's new?)

user posted image

Hardware/Design
-Lumia 830 come with very smooth and high quality removable casing. Other than that,it's not fingerprint magnet like lumia 920 casing
-Newer phone design (lumia icon) and much lighter compared to Lumia 920
-MicroUSB port move from bottom to top (beside 3.5mm audio jack)
-Soft volume, power and camera button (which i dont really like it ..personally i prefer lumia 920 button)
-Brighter screen and no screen burn issue(overwarm display color temperature at lumia 920)
-Silky sleek touch feeling on the screen and phone brows.gif

user posted image

Software
-Lumia 830 come with most recent update which is Lumia Demin. While Lumia 920 currently still on Lumia Cyan(my device come together with developer preview)
-Lumia 830 come with much complete and updated camera firmware/algorithm (like live image)
-Lumia 830 pre-bundled more features than lumia 920 ..like motion data, glance screen, brightness profile etc

Feel free to let me know more info/ cool feature smile.gif

Conclusion[25/1/2015]

Q: Worth to upgrade to Lumia 830 (Affordable flagship model) from Lumia 920?

A: Yes and No. Because it's not really a huge upgrade from lumia 920. You still getting 1GB of ram with 16GB of internal storage (lumia 920 come with 32gb internal storage). It's just a replacement model of lumia 920 with much more updated processor and design. I will consider 930 instead of 830 if i am upgrading from 920.

Q: Worth to jump ship/change to Lumia 830?
A: Yes. With less than 1.2k, you can get a decent specs of windows phone with above average of camera. Other than that, windows phone store apps should more than enough to serve you

Q: Should i purchase Lumia 830 instead of Lumia 920

A: Yes. You should. because Lumia 830 provide much more flexibility to that devices(like expandable storage, removable battery etc) and camera performance in between 2 devices are quite on pair

Correction on the spec you listed, 830 uses micro sim not nano sim. Anyways congratulations on the new 830. I find it a better upgrade from my 820. One of the plus point is longer battery usage and less heat. It is also thinner and lighter.

Its nano.
And a warning - if the Telco ask you to cut the micro-sim to nano size - DONT Do it - you won't be able to take it out later.
Happened to my father's 830.

Always get an actual NANO sim from the Telco.

Sorry forgot to mention - it was Maxis but not the official outlet - my dad probably went to a reseller - hence, the nonsense on cutting the sim, etc.

I went to the official Maxis Telco outlet (eCurve) who issued me a brand new nano LTE sim - FOC.

So far the only Telco (U-Mobile) I go even its at the service center they would asked us if we would like to Cut the sim or pay RM10 for nano sim, other Telco don't encourage cutting sim.

The 735 is amazingly a good hp for the price. I compared my L920 with my sister's L735, and I like the solid design more than mine. It has the best front camera among all the Lumia lineup.
But the only downside of L735 is that it is not pureview. So some of the best features for Lumia Camera is not available.

one thing that i observed on microsoft camera apps

last time microsoft camera apps on lumia 920 come with spot focus
*which means if u touch some place ..it will adjust setting based on that point

but i can't get this feature in lumia 830 microsoft camera apps (830 always use wide focus)

for example

Lumia 920 (Microsoft Apps + all auto(include iso) + spot focus(touch on bright))

still 920

havent go cut sim yet laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

btw ..just found out spot focus on lumia 830

go to photo setting > disable tap to take photo ..then u will have spot focus on lumia 830

but lumia 920 u enabled tap to take photo = spot focus + auto take

lumia 830 = spot focus need to manually touch shutter button to capture biggrin.gif

You forgot the biggest con of Lumia 830:

DAMN SLIPPERY PHONE..!!

I bought it the first week it came out. Since then the phone kept slipping out of my hand, and I had not been able to find a casing for this phone to add more grip. I thought, at this rate sooner or later this phone is gonna break.

True enough this morning it came flying out of my hand and smacked hard screen down against the marble floor. KOYAKKKKKK....

But I love this phone. Good proc, hi res screen with damn good colours, perfect size, 16GB internal storage with MicroSD card slot. Metal chassis & pretty damn durable to take so many drops without a hitch until this morning's smackdown disaster.

I want to buy another Lumia, but at the moment there is none better specced for the price than the 830.

The other con is, the battery doesn't last a day. It gets pretty hot too when gaming. And finding accessories like casing & screen protector for this phone is a real bltch.

casing and screen protector can go for third party ..LYN garage sales and lelong got

http://list.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/List.as...d=&PriceUBound=

yes ..i kinda agree to you that it's very slippery phone compared to my lumia 920

atleast 920 is bulky which we can hold it properly

i just bought a lumia 830 online.. there is no avaxx sticker/seal on the phone, charger, and box.. not even a sirim sticker in the phone, only have at the box.. so i suspect its a ap phone..

so i check the imei: the imei on the box, back of the phone and the #*06#, all 3 is identical.. i also check the warranty status in microsoft malaysia website using this imei, and it stated its under warranty..

Any idea this phone is ap or ori? does any of ur 830 have the same prob with mine?

Hi I also just bought Lumia 930, AFAIK Avaxx and Zitron no more selling Lumia 930 stock ad, the stock I bought is distributed by ECS Aster Sdn Bhd, it is still original Malaysia set but different distributor only, i found out this at the SIRIM website as Avaxx and Zitron licence ad expired, now only ECS Aster still valid, not sure whether ur 830 is same with me or not, u can check below printscreen smile.gif
