RPG-7 styled weapon for US army? we'll see..
QUOTE US Army Tests Soviet-Designed Rocket Launcher ![]() U.S. Army infantry platoons may one day be fighting with an Americanized version of the famous, Soviet RPG 7 anti-armor weapon. Army testers recently evaluated Airtronic USA Inc.'s RPG 7 as part of service's annual Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment. "The durability, simplicity, low cost and effectiveness of the RPG 7 has made it the most widely used man-portable anti-armor weapon in the world," according to the AEWE's Systems Book of selected technologies chosen for this year's experiment. But the Airtronic RPG is quite different than the 1960s-era Soviet weapon. Its tube is made from 4140/4150 ordnance grade barrel steel and it features several sections of rail for attaching optics. It weighs about 14 pounds unloaded and without optic. Many soldiers involved with the experiment have faced enemy forces in Iraq and Afghanistan that were armed with RPG weapons, Army officials from the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Ga., said. "There was a great deal of interest because there were a number of guys that had been deployed had seen it from the other perspective," said Harry Lubin, chief of the Experimentation Branch of MCOE's Maneuver Battle Lab. QUOTE ![]() Indonesia and Boeing look for Chinook co-operation Jon Grevatt, Bangkok - IHS Jane's Defence Industry 12 February 2015 Indonesia and Boeing are exploring co-operation in relation to the company's CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift helicopter, the Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated. Indonesian defence minister Ryamizard Ryacudu and Yeong-Tae Pak, Boeing vice-president for Indonesia and Malaysia, discussed a potential Chinook programme on 12 February, said the MoD. It added that the two sides are exploring the possibility of co-operation with a view to develop Indonesia's "land and marine fleets". The MoD did not elaborate. Relations between Boeing's defence business and Indonesia have expanded significantly in recent years with the country's purchase of eight AH-64E Apache attack helicopters. This contract, confirmed by the US Department of Defense (DoD) in January 2015, represents the largest US sale of a new military platform to Indonesia since Washington lifted an arms embargo imposed on the Southeast Asian country from the 1990s until 2005. http://www.janes.com/article/48961/indones...ok-co-operation This post has been edited by azriel: Feb 13 2015, 10:28 PM |

QUOTE(madoka @ Feb 13 2015, 10:03 PM) I bet it'll be made with high-tech carbon fibre space age materials which will cost $2000 per backpack unit and will break apart the first time a soldier or Marine loses his step and falls on his back. |

Pro-Russian separatists halt assault on Debaltsevo city, pulls back to defensive positions on outer city limits
Probably just a reconnaissance-in-force, trying to provoke the city's defensive system and probe for any possible weaknesses. However the separatists are already dug in just 2-3 kilometers from the city itself. This post has been edited by MilitaryMadness: Feb 14 2015, 11:10 AM |
