Airbus Talking to Tata, Reliance to Jointly Make Military Helicopters

BENGALURU:  Airbus Helicopters said on Friday it is in talks with India's Mahindra and Mahindra, Reliance Industries and Tata Group to jointly make military helicopters, to comply with rules aimed at helping the nascent local defence industry.

The company, a unit of Airbus Group, is offering to build its light utility AS550 Fennec and the medium lift EC725 for India's armed forces, which are heavily dependent on an ageing fleet of Cheetah and Chetak helicopters.

"We are in the selection process, talking to different industries to form a JV (joint venture)," Rainer Farid, a senior Airbus Helicopters executive told Reuters on the sidelines of the Aero India airshow in Bengaluru on Friday.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Make in India" initiative, foreign contractors used to selling directly to New Delhi must form partnerships with local companies and transfer more of the work to help grow the nascent defence industry.

India last year scrapped the planned acquisition of 197 light utility helicopters so that it could launch a new competition reserved for domestic companies that form joint ventures with foreign suppliers.

In addition to Airbus, other firms including US-based Sikorsky Aircraft and Russian Helicopters are also expected to bid for the order.

State-run Hindustan Aeronautics is the only Indian company producing helicopters, meaning that global defence firms are likely to have to partner with a private company building a product for the first time and from scratch.

Airbus executive Farid said that was a concern. "It is a tough task because you need to establish your vendors here which are not as existent as in other countries," he added.

Malaysia, Canada join forces in military training programme -

Military special forces from Canada and Malaysia last week concluded the first formal exercises of a comprehensive training exchange programme aimed at strengthening operational capabilities.

The joint cooperation saw soldiers from both countries training each other in a jungle environment, while Malaysian forces are currently in Canada for training in cold weather operations and combat techniques.

Speaking at a closing ceremony on February 19 to mark the completion of the joint training between the Canadian Special Operations Regiment and the Grup Gerak Khas of the Malaysian army, acting high commissioner Robert Burley praised the Malaysian soldiers, saying, “Canada’s world-class special forces are proud to engage with their Malaysian counterparts on this joint training.

“It is a great example of our close partnership and shared commitment to enhancing security for our citizens,” he added.
The ceremony was also attended by chief of staff for Canada’s Special Forces Colonel Alan Mulawyshyn, who travelled from Canada for the ceremony, and Colonel Zolkopli bin Hashim, deputy commander of 21 GGK.

The US$4.2 million (RM12 million) training programme, which will extend over three years, is funded by the Department of National Defence and led by Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (Cansofcom) of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Canada’s security and defence cooperation with Malaysia has seen over US$10 million (RM29 million) in recent and approved funding. Key areas of cooperation include counter-terrorism, nuclear security, migrant smuggling, and border security.

During the visit of Prime Minister Stephen Harper to Malaysia in October 2013, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on security cooperation. – February 24, 2015.

Look at the bigger picture,
locating front role fighter is not just for rebel
in case you did not know, there is a 2 potential warzone in that area alone

BTW betul kah naval interested juga on land launch brahmos? Ada cerita desus desus pernah considered on SGPV but kalau ikut size memang tak boleh fit VLS since it used it own VLS system ( Universal VLS developed by Brahmos Aerospace and come with 8 missiles)

Inclined pulak, modal SGPV tak tunjuk pun hmm.gif

inb4 tunggguuuu lahhh laugh.gif
Next election, malaysia hot topic again?
*
not SGPV but NGPV ,but Brahmos tak muat as VLS even when their form made a model of NGPV B deck loaded with brahmos VLS,
there is a plan for Brahmos to be integrated to NGPV at the back instead but the plan never took off

U mean kedah class second upper deck before the bridge?
Even tat canot fit?  how long is tat monster laugh.gif

i assume there no more plan of using brahmos naval especially? or is there? brows.gif  brows.gif

air launch variant can fit on MKM with little modification the hard point
*
yes
for VLS, the rocket need to add booster at the tail of the rockets
hence adding a few more feet to that god damn long of a rocket

For me, I just stick to NSM

BTW kedah class kata will remain as a patrol ship.. plan to armed it basically all not successful
*
because of her FFBNFW nature, the role of the ship can be change according to threat and need
the NSM idea is to replace all the Exocet missile that currently still in service in the RMN

I might have named my account wrongly but my question was serious
In a war how will we resist the hundreds/thousands of armor from potential enemies?
Can we only depend on infantry rpgs and atgms which have to be launched within range of the enemy armor's gun?
*
you should know "hundreds/thousands of armor" movement will raised the eyebrow from the first day

The logistical movement prior to that first day would've raise eyebrow. Thousands of fuel trucks transporting fuel to the Military bases would've raise the alarm, even before first tank move.
*
you're right
logistic can be done phase by phase, depending how careful the planning is
but the huge movement itself is another story

for our 6x6 programme replacement, av6 most likel selected but instead opt for direct purchase ready vehicles rather than license productions

main reason is because the is it more economical for small quantity
*
ntah, aku tau hari tu AV6 baru hantar utk test
but they are looking for that renault apa tah aku pun lupa

iinm it is not about small quantity but how fast the ifv can be produce as they are badly needed in the Lebanon

still it's anybody guess
