Bra, pillow, clothes, shoes. Anything they can chew, they will chew. Give your husky a chewy bone, he will finish it in 4 hours top. Mine finishes within 1 hour. 6 inch chewy bone. doh.gif
Once a week if you're lazy.

But Huskies generally like to shower/get wet. Or at least mine does.

2) I only started combing recently as he's 8 months now. Puppy stage (like 1-4 months) shouldn't require too much combing.
3) start at young age.
4) I feed 2-3-4-5 and mine still won't eat that much unless I sit next to him during meal time. sweat.gif that's how much attention Huskies require.
And today, just a while ago, my Husky was barking. I never knew Huskies bark - only howl. I think he has mixed with my mongrels too much.

eerrr... not sure if "generally" can be generically used here.. afterall, our 2 little buggers dislike having a bath (but they love to swim thou sweat.gif )

siberian huskies that we knew of, have furs/body that have very little bad odor. some owners who keep their huskies indoor can go up to a month before requiring a bath..

however if you're going to give them a bath, the headache is not the bath but the blow drying part rclxub.gif
during their shedding period, blow drying them can be super rclxub.gif

we put our huskies on a 1x meal daily when they reached ~12mth old.. (what food did you feed yours?)

ohh.. huskies do bark laugh.gif my white one doesn't know how to howl properly whereas my sable one still gives a very comical growl/howl combo..

Mine has to take a bath after a week. Likes to dig holes in the ground, run around and get dirty. Especially into my dad's workstation (a lot of mud and water.)

I don't blow dry my Husky because after his bath, we'll dry him partially with a towel (special one for him) then put him in the cage or he'll get dirty again.

I feed my husky with homecook dog food. Usually rice + chicken.

My husky hasn't barked for a long time, only howling in the morning when the mosques start praying loudly (all my dogs will howl. dunno why sweat.gif)

Some required information from the experience owners notworthy.gif

Reading the thread gave me some inside information on the temperament, characteristic, do and donts of the husky. thank you

What is the cost like to start of with a husky( I know they range between 1800 and above)? Assuming to start off from pup...from food to all necessary accessories..

What is the cost like to maintain the husky(montly)? food, vet, grooming and etc

How often do we required to bring the husky for a check up ( other then when they are not ill ) and what is the rough estimation cost of each visit?

Grooming, what is the duration like to send for professional grooming? for a complete clean up than the usual weekly bath at home?every 3 months?

One thing i learn from the previous thread is, husky will need to be on the leash when you bring them out, can i bring them to a field and play fetch(off the leash) or that is a no?Also since they are smart, can we discipline them to not cross the gate or command such as STAY,HEEL, and etc?

The husky goes tru 2 heavy shedding, what months are those and how long is the duration usually?

thank you and sry if i ask anything wrong...I just do not want to commit to something without knowing if i could afford it and give it life it needs..needs to be absolutely sure.... icon_rolleyes.gif

I'll answer this one.

Unless you're in a fenced field, it is extremely risky to let a husky off leash. They're roamers by nature, and will run off when you least expect it. It's not worth the risk. As for teaching them not to cross a gate, look at it this way - a husky will try to escape from a enclosed yard. An open gate? That's just asking for it.

the cost varies from various points of entry.. you may purchase them from different types of sellers, so-called "grade", etc.

What is the cost like to maintain the husky(montly)? food, vet, grooming and etc
this varies as well, it will eventually depend on what type of pet owner you would like to assume.. you may end up spending a huge bomb on pet food, vet, grooming and accessories or you can also opt for simplistic approach.. some of us do cook a wholesome meals for our husky and that will bring down the food cost tremendously for example.. if you have a "show dog" grade of husky, you'd generally spend alot on its grooming..

How often do we required to bring the husky for a check up ( other then when they are not ill ) and what is the rough estimation cost of each visit?
you seemed to be very conscious about the cost factor.. thus having a healthy pup is a very important starting point for you. going to the vets with meds for the dogs are not without any harm.. one of our husky, have a weaker digestive system than the other. we suspected it was due to antibiotics administered to it when it was a young pup.. imho, going to the vets frequently is not a good thing.

Grooming, what is the duration like to send for professional grooming? for a complete clean up than the usual weekly bath at home?every 3 months?
weekly bath?!? ... hard to fathom this at all ... you definitely do well to read more about siberian husky. for one, they have near odorless body/furs ... i've read some owners only take them for a shower/bath once every 3 months, this is however, is also contingent to how you house your husky, it's living environment, etc. we keep both our huskies indoor all the time and they hate their bath (although they love to swim on their own)

One thing i learn from the previous thread is, husky will need to be on the leash when you bring them out, can i bring them to a field and play fetch(off the leash) or that is a no?Also since they are smart, can we discipline them to not cross the gate or command such as STAY,HEEL, and etc?
i believe is, it's all boil down to how well you know(or bond) your husky. although i can say is that husky is one stubborn dog breed! for example, we have both a male and a female husky and they're both very different in behavior as well. the female is more attached to us and we're comfortable that she will not wander away in an unleashed situation. yes, we do provide unleashed moments for our huskies at an open park field; they love to run

The husky goes tru 2 heavy shedding, what months are those and how long is the duration usually?
have you any idea how heavy is that? ...  sweat.gif  if your husky is a 2nd/3rd/etc generation in m'sia then it is difficult to ascertain when it will start shedding for the 1st time. in it's native environment, most husky will shed after winter and since it's m'sia, there is no winter ... shedding period can go between 1-3mths but if you're diligent, you can speed up the process by daily combing their hair aka grooming.. however, if you're a lazy fatass kid, then you may really want to give this breed a miss.. cos the shedding is crazy. we vacuum our house practically everyday during those shedding period.

Actually, it really depend on how well you know about the breed.
For me, I only spend around Rm250 per one month and half for one Siberian Husky. The more I have, the cheaper it goes for the maintenance fee per dog apart from the time you need.

This is Max. He is 4 months old

Max is on blackwood salmon formulae. I was planing to change his diet to Orijen.
When I went to Global Pets, they told me that Orijen and Acana will be totally discontinued in Malaysia as the supplier will to be bringing in these 2 brands anymore.

Is there any truth bout this? Anybody here have any info?

Thanks
