For the new allocation 21 to 27 July, will they still follow the 50:30:15:5 quota or will it be first come first serve up to the 20k limit? I won't be able to go until 23rd, & scared all allocation taken up only...

Ya, i already opened one in april. If wanna go buy again next week, only need to bring the book then just queue up, right? No need to fill in any more forms, right?

I topped up existing ASM recently, & they required a (fairly short & simple) form to be filled in.

dreamer101,It's easy to stand on the sidelines & question people about their alleged lack of knowledge with random questions & CRAZY CAPITALIZATION. There is always incomplete information driving any market - it's why we have a lucrative consultancy industry.

Now, if you have any actual arguments (or even better, evidence) as to why PNBs implicit govt guarantee is not believable, please present them & live or die by the weight of your arguments. If you're just gonna sound like some crazy irrational OMG TEH GOVT IS GONNA ROB US!!!!! conspiracy theorist with snide asides about how everyone else is a sheeple while you're the lone proud Doubting Thomas, sorry, but those questions you like asking everyone else about WHAT they know & WHO are they to recommend to others? Ask and answer them for yourself first.

In short, dreamer101 (& to a lesser extent, Lawyer1), put up or shut up.

Lawyer1, so far you've not given any evidence or even reasonable speculation to back up your prior posts. You just come to a public forum, say X is gonna happen and don't offer ANYTHING to support it. I am merely asking you & others to back up your statements with something more than what you have provided. Even reasonable speculation or guesswork would be better than the random drive-by commenting of your last post.

BTW, 'put up or shut up' is a metaphor. I cannot (& even if I could, I would not) silence anyone in a public forum. But I can call them out if they're statements are devoid of any supportive reasoning.

As to your being hurt and or disgusted, it's a public internet forum. Expect to be criticised & kindly build up your tolerance. Frankly, if my previous post has led to you stopping your unsupported statements, I reckon that I've done 'others' a favour. If you can't be bothered to elaborate on your theories, don't fault others when they can't be bothered to take you seriously.

I ask again out of common interest & courtesy - would you like to elaborate and support your own theories?

So, back to you.  What gives you the CONFIDENCE that YOUR MONEY will be managed WISELY?? The TRACK RECORD definitely does not indicate that.
*
Which track record would that be dreamer101?

A singular event that took place years ago under a different administration & a completely different political climate? A climate where the leading political party was secure enough to undertake such damaging actions due to the weakness of the opposition party at the time?

Or the track record of the returns of the ASM fund for the last 5 years, which has comprehensively beaten the FD rates by almost twice, including in a prior recession?

Please clarify which track record you're referring to.

Just got back from post office, managed to get my purchases rclxm9.gif Got there at 8.20, already 'only" had 8 people in front - it's a small one, and only open 6 weeks ago, so I think Auntie/ Uncle division not really know about it. There was one uncle with 2 books, but there was this 20-something chick who was holding like 6 books as well ohmy.gif ....

Good luck to everyone, hope you get your purchases in before the Auntie/ Uncle Army! thumbup.gif

So, the BOTTOM LINE is you were NOT telling the TRUTH when you said that ASW is 51% owned by BUMI.

<< i guess bumi will slowly buying up the unsold units as ASW is the 2nd /3rd options fund after ASB>>

Which is not consistent with

<<I was told that billions of Bumiputra ASW2020 units still available >>

BUMI lot of ASW2020 has been around for A LONG LONG time. And, it has NOT been fully subscribed. So, how likely that ASM which is not as good as ASW2020 will ever be fully subscribed?? Common sense will tell you that it will not happen.
Uh, dreamer, maybe you should re-read those 2 quotes. cheah doesn't mention ASM in those quote, only ASW. The quote are internally consistent.

Regarding your query about how ASM is fully subscribed when ASW isn't, keep in mind that ASMs Bumi quota is released to public after a while, ASW (AFAIK) is not. As such, ASM is fully subscribed as for many non-bumis, it is their best option when ASW becomes unavailable for them (while simultaneously still being available for Bumis).

No real way to tell during 1st year launch period.

Personally, gonna have to hold off as I'm no longer looking to park money, thinking of dipping my feet into share market instead during any upcoming dips. Maybe next year, once the returns are in....

Bernama

Key points:

AS 1 Malaysia will be opened for public subscription... beginning Aug 5, 2009 till Sept 3, 2009,"

fund will be invested in Malaysian companies with its yield benchmark according to 5-year Malaysian government yields which currently hovers around 3.7 to 4.0 percent.

"During the offer period, subscription of the units is subject to an allocation of 50 percent for Bumiputeras, 30 percent for chinese, 15 percent for Indians and the remaining five percent for other minorities,"

The maximum investment limit during the 30-day offer period has been set at 50,000 units per accountholder for those between the ages of 18 and 55... for those above 55, is set at 10,000 units per account holder

So racial quota still in place (but only for offer period), & now offer period limit is 50k....

Added on July 31, 2009, 9:14 pmJust a stupid question here, If ASNB collapse means Malaysia HABIS? The reason I ask this kind of question is because I've invested RM70k into those funds like ASM and ASW2020, and I scare of ASNB collapse then my money gonE!!!!
*
Short answer is yes, if there was a scenario where ASNB collapses, it would be very much in line with the Malaysian economy (not the government, the whole economy) collapsing. It would probably have to be something a magnitude worse than the late 90's crisis. If that DOES happen, you're probably screwed no matter where in Malaysai you keep your money. tongue.gif

The answer is SIMPLE.  Do not keep ALL your money in Malaysia.  Singapore is a short train / bus ride away.

Ennnh, anything that screws the M'sian fundamentals so badly that I'll need an exit will significantly impact Sg as well. Probably not as much, but it would be unpalatable as a lifeboat. Personally, my escape route is much further south...
