The "soft reset" sounds more like a reboot to me. Any difference  between  the two? Thank you in advance.
*
It is exactly the same.

In WP, you don't get any prompt to turn off or restart if you hold the power button like you would on Android. So, to do a restart or "soft reset" on WP, you had to do that aforementioned trick.

Btw, on windows phone (in my case Lumia 430), how do I turn off the screen by just touching screen? Currently im using an apps to do just that.
*
That's your only option.

And by apps, I take that you meant; you pin a live tile supplied by that app to your start screen and pressing it would lock/sleep the phone? If yes, then yeah that your only option.

QUOTE(JJKTP @ Nov 29 2015, 09:38 PM)
One more thing. I can see that this phone has a double tap feature to turn on the screen. Ia there any way for me to turn on the screen using volume  button like in most Android phone?
*
Nope you can't neither, power button and double tap are your only option.

QUOTE(dgboy @ Nov 29 2015, 10:06 PM)
Look for this last setting under Lock Screen

[attachmentid=5403290]
*
That's only for phone with on-screen navigation bar which his phone (Lumia 430) does not have.

Yes, thats exactly what I did. Would you recommend the best apps to turn off the screen? Currently I'm using apps called Nice Lock.
*
I haven't used those kind of app for a while now so I can't really recommend any.

QUOTE(JJKTP @ Nov 29 2015, 10:51 PM)
Btw, does using double tap take its toll on battery life? I understand that the phone digitizer need to stay awake for double tap to works.
*
Not by a large margin. I barely noticed any significant battery drain when it's turned on so don't worry too much.

Hi super newbie here, Using Lumia 735
I had several issues downloading WP10 using Upgrade Advisor
First try, it needed extra 900mb internal space. eventhough i had 1.4gb free.

So i hard reset my phone, nothing else i could clear. space taken up by emails. (1gb+)
Ran all the 8.1 updates..
Then i tried again. but it gave me the "working with your carrier service to deliver" yada2..
tried Windows insider app, couldn't connect, ask me to check time/date etc2..

what should i do to update to WP10?  cry.gif
Thanks

To be clear, check what service provider is your phone under. You can do so by going to Settings > System > About.

How did you hard reset your phone? Through the "Reset your phone" button on the about settings or using the Windows Device Recovery Tool?

If you did it through the "Reset your phone" button, try using the WDRT instead.

Just updated my Lumia 930 to 10586.105 and then to .164 this morning. Took quite a while to fully complete the update.

Noticed that my quick status on lock screen does not show, no matter that apps that I have set. Anyone have the same problem?
*
Mine works fine. Also running L930 with official Windows 10 Mobile.

Lesson number one, never listen to a salesman. They don't care about you, all they care about is selling their product.

Pretty much every transaction I made these days is just research on the web, go to store, ask for the product, pay for it and then leave. No time for some salesman nonsense talk.

Hey, what is hard reset?

Im planning to do it after the anniversary update....
*
You start off fresh. It will completely wipe files/apps/contacts/photos you have in your phone. It will be as if the phone just came out of the box.

If you're planning to do this, please make sure you backup everything as there is no turning back from this.

If your phone didn't came with W10M but you already update to Windows 10 Mobile, it will start off with Windows 10 Mobile instead.

Ahh ok.

How to backup all these? Should i comnect my phone to the PC?
*
For music/photos/videos, you can just connect it to your PC and copy/paste the files you want to save.

For app data, go to Settings > Update & Security > Backup and make sure you have toggled both "Back up content from participating apps" and "Back up settings like my Start screen layout, accounts and passwords". And if you go into the "More option", you can see which app data can be backup on the cloud.

Do note that WhatsApp does not support Windows Phone cloud backup system so if you hard reset, you will lose all of your Whatsapp messages/pictures/videos. There is a way to backup/restore WhatsApp messages, but only if your phone has a SD card slot and I personally never done it so proceed at your own risk.

For contacts, if you have linked the phone with a Microsoft account, it should already be saved on the cloud. Check on this site to see if all your contacts is in there : https://people.live.com/

For SMS, again if you have linked the phone with a Microsoft account, it should already be saved on the cloud. After you have hard reset, be sure to go to System > Messaging and set the "Download messages from" option to "Any time"

You mean link the phone contact with your Facebook contact? If so, then go to the People app, select contact and press the link button :
