Just started playing this over the weekend and have advanced to Tier 5 but still using Tier 3 St Louis Cruiser. I suck at Tier 4 Phoenix torp cruiser. I suck at torpedoes, period!

I'd like to ask, can I just research towards a Tier 6 Cleveland without having to actually buy an Omaha (tier 5 ship)? Damn Phoenix cost me a bomb and I'm sure an Omaha will be even more expensive

Yeah, same here. Have more or less "mastered" the main guns but torpedoes..... I really want to stick with gun boats and the next cruiser I'm aiming for is the Cleveland. Need to grind for XP with my Tier 3 St Louis. Don't relish the idea of spending $$ on having to buy a tier 5 cruiser (also a torpedo cruiser!) if it can be avoided.

But the damage from the German guns suck.....

I've been grinding the German line. Currently in a Yorck (Tier VII) with another 34k XP for the Hipper (Tier VIII). Coming from a Nurnberg, I initially found the Yorck terrible and thought about abandoning the German line, returning to USN. Now, having become more accustomed to it, I've learnt to deal with its shortfalls.

If I had solely focused on the German line, I reckon I'd be closer to Tier IX by now (I have a Tier IV Phoenix and a Tier V Minekaze).

Been playing this for just over 2 weeks (or is it 3?), couple of hours daily, more during weekends/breaks. If one grinds daily with more hours, I reckon Tier X may be achievable in under two months. Of course, it also depends on whether you get a bad streak of being assigned to "bad" teams, which I seem to have quite regularly lately

Russian DD torp range very short only wor.

Looking forward to checking out my Kamikaze in port later this evening. Main diff between Kamizake vs Minekaze are:

1. Slightly slower 37.5kt vs 39kt
2. Faster turret rotation 25.71 vs 30
3. More HP 11,100 vs 10,900
4. Rudder shift 2.9s vs 3.2s

Was so sien last evening after getting MM with weak teams, decided to grind my Omaha towards the Cleveland. Have not ventured out much with my IJN DD recently as the last few outings, kena shot left, right and centre

Under 30k XP for the Cleveland to go. Also, had a good session last night with my Hipper with lots of citadel hits!

What should I upgrade first and what modules to install for the Cleveland?

My Omaha Captain is only a noob 9-point only.

I still prefer the Atago compared to the Tone though the latter is Tier 7, which will get better MM ie lower chances to meet Tier 10s.

Been catching up on the ARP missions by finally completing the 30 DD kills. Not too focused on getting the Cleveland currently as I have been playing my Hipper, Atago and Nurnberg for mission purposes... downing planes and setting them all on fire!

Nice! I am hopeful I'll get mine before the event expires.

Yes, I had a bad streak too yesterday. I believe it has to do with the ARP missions that everyone is grinding hard at. Generally, players are too focused on starting fires (and not using AP), chasing after planes (WTF?!), going after DDs (yes, I have seen BB captains concentrating on DD instead of the opposing team's BB/CA/CL/CV).

Fortunately, I play to just unwind from a long work day and the WR is not a big thing for me. What pisses me off most is seeing team mates in DD not bothering to cap and/or playing like they were a CL ie sailing close to the main fleet not bothered with spotting/scouting!
