Eat Yayoi-Ken. Unlimited rice refill. Reasonable prices.

I also thought of buying the tickets on the spot until I read from a traveller's blog that he failed to get the reserved ticket on the spot and was searching high and low for the alternative to travel to his destination (Takayama).

I am trying to avoid the kind of hiccups as I notice the transport from Shirakawa-go to Kanazawa via Nohi bus required reservation. Just can't imagine the panic that I need to face if all reserved seats are sold out on the day when I want to purchase. 😕

Then go one day before and buy in advance smile.gif

I guess we will just have to hope to be lucky that it snows in March then... blush.gif

Actually you can still ski in Hakuba in end march.

The lower slopes will be closed but upper slopes will still be open. This year they are closing Happo-One only in May.

Check out this shot from 28 March 2015.

This is from 30 March.

Now that the Hokuriku Shinkansen is open it's quite easy to go to Nozawa Onsen from Tokyo. 2 hours to Iiyama then 15 mins by taxi.

Hakuba is a little bit harder. 1 hour 45 mins to Nagano then 45 mins bus to Hakuba.

Looks beautiful! Actually we don't want to ski. We just want to experience the snowy feel and soaking open air outdoor bath surrounded by snow....

That one tak boleh, usually, snow on the ground will have mostly disappeared by end March. This year Hakuba had incredible snow and there was still a lot of snow on the ground in early April, but it's quite dirty.

Early March would be a good time to consider going Hakuba. The Aussie crowd will have disappeared by then and you can still get the occasional snowstorm.

But it's a really beautiful place. This shot was taken on 16th April:

maybe i'll head to hakuba...on 18th March still can snowboarding hor?

On an average season, March 18 is still ok. However, you MUST book ski instructors in advance.

Most of them go home by early March because that's when the Aussie school holidays end, so business drops sharply.

If you do not reserve online (I recommend http://www.evergreen-hakuba.com/), then you may end up not having an instructor, which is not advisable for first timers.

If you give me a budget per person and number of pax I can give some recommendations on accomodation.

Snow records for past 3 years, 18th March

Rm400 per person per night? Wah that's a heck of a lot. RM200 ish a night can get very nice chalet d (without food).

If you want to stay in Ryokan, Shirouma-sou is superb. Starts at RM300 per person with breakfast.

March is low season so only 55k a night for 8 pax, RM200 per person per night.

This one better, pay 5k more per night (in total), but the house is brand new

I would recommend to go as early in March as possible though. Weather warms up very fast. 1st week of March is best, still got snow everywhere, and already considered off-peak pricing.

Arrr ok. In that case I would say it's still worth going if you're planning to ski.

If not planning to ski then probably not worth it.

Noob question here... tongue.gif

If i drive on expressway in Japan, over the speedlimit, will there be patrol car or speed traps standby at every corner?

Like Malaysia, we scared of AES only and usually can speed over the limit....Japan how?
*
So far, I've never seen a patrol car. On the highway, a lot of cars break the speed limit, so I just follow their speed or a bit lower than them.

From Nagoya to Hakuba, the highway limit is 110 (or 120, cant really remember), but a lot of cars going at 140+.

from my understanding mt fuji subaru 5th station no need hike, bus can reach
it is something like Bukit Tinggi French Village

if u wan to hike, there is few prefer hiking route which is not at 5th station  whistling.gif
u can hike all the way to the peak
again, i doubt u gonna hike to mt fuji peak...
coz 3days is not enuf

1 night enough if you are young and fit. Last time when I was a student, we had dinner at 5th station, then hike through the night to catch sunrise at summit, then hike down in the morning.

Damn chialat, no way I can do it again.

That it.  Scared already.
*
Same, no more than once. Overnight is too taxing, altitude sickness is a problem because of fast ascent, no time to acclimatize.
