I arrive Kansai Airport at 10.30pm too and have decided to overnight in Airport to save the hassle for rushing and also one night hotel cost.

Kansai airport have airport lounge, and I read that by applying as member, you get 50% discount. So staying in the airport lounge wasn't that expensive. But their website mentioned that kids below 18 are not allow to stay in the airport lounge from 22:00 to 05:00. Can consider this option if you travel without kids.

dont even bother with the single booth

99% of the time it's fully used as per my experience, Even reaching there at 9pm is full d

I have finally secured all my hotel bookings for my two week trip in Osaka and Kobe.
Planning to travel around Osaka, Kyoto and Nara.
What pass should I get when I travel in Osaka?
*
osaka 2 day amazing pass and kansai wide area pass ( just for the sake of sitting in a shinkansen)

Would they be affordable?
I have booked Hotel Diamond to crash for a night on July 4th.
Or any suggestion for hotel in Osaka for late-night arrival?
*
3000 yen for osaka 2 day pass. Worth it if you can cram much of the activities into 2 days

My record was 40k pace walked over 2 days covering 6 attractions that was listed in it ,save me about 2k yen in ticket charges if i were to pay separately thumbup.gif

If you dont mind, just bunk it in KIX, They offer free blanket till 11PM on their information counter for those intending to do so. Saw a few ang moh pulling together 2 rows of seat side by side to make a "single bed"
Reckon you could save quite a sum if you do that

Thanks RegentCid and idunnolol for the suggestions.

I am travelling for 6-7 days in Kobe, and another 7 days in Osaka.
So something which can be of that long would be good.

I am travelling together with my parents, not sure whether they are used to such or not.
I will try to discuss with them and see, since the next morning we will have to travel to Kobe first.
*
how old will your parents be?

If they are quite old then maybe the bus route in osaka will be better for their legs as some subway entrance/exit is strictly stairs about 30-40 flights thou some have elevators

There is a possibility of long walks just to get out of the subway station to the nearest exit of a attraction like osaka castle. My personal experience will be Tanimachi Yonchōme Station. I have to walk up a flight of stairs to get out of the subway level, walk 300-400 meter to the NHK exit then another 600 meter to the gate of the castle

Not sure if your parents could take those kinds of pacing sweat.gif

Not a prob for them I think.
Just not sure if they used to no proper room to sleep lol.
They are at their 50s now.

What main attractions you would suggest in Osaka?
I am planning to go Aquarium, Universal Studio (if got budget), Osaka castle, and the street where they sell electronics.
*
Take it slow and easy la with your parents. Last time I tried to march my parents that are about the same age as yours according to my pace when I was in paris, at second day, they just decided to screw it and take the hop on hop off bus sad.gif

Personally the things I enjoyed the most in Osaka in the shinsekai area, spa world and umeda Sky tower lol

Tips if your going to himeji, don't bother going up the castle. I climb up 6 floors of steep stairs to find nothing in it except for a little Japanese-buddhism praying box on the top floor

Just checked, no room available.

Even for Airbnb, the listing with good review also sold out fast and I notice some listing is fully booked in November.

do you have problem finding places for osaka in november through airbnb?

I planned to have a Japan trip in September. Do I need to board a bullet train from and to Osaka and Tokyo? How can I purchase a pass/ticket for the bullet train?

Is there a recommended place to live in Osaka, whereby there is an easy access to University Studio Osaka? Thanks
*
flight was cheaper for me.

Got a return tix from jetstar for only about 6k yen from KIX to NRT during their spring sale

saved back a heft sum for my group by using kansai pass + flight instead of the japan rail pass ( It cost about 30k yen atm for a 7 day JR pass)

is applying visa to Japan required?
I saw some said can just go without applying visa..
*
No need if your passport is with embedded chip ( AKA any passport made within the past 5-10 years)

They do take your finger prints once you reach their airport immigration

I think mine has embedded chip.
Does getting a visa means easier access to their public transportation system (foreign only rate) and also tax free zone (cant rmb saw from where).
*
You only get tax refund la biggrin.gif. Only applicable if you purchase more than set limit

Some passes does give favorable rate if you book online first and redeem the online confirmation to physical pass at their stations

Not sure what is your question.
I tot type of photo depends very much on what Immigration Malaysia define? I dont think its black and white. If you manage to make a passport with a photo that does not conform to Malaysia Immigration standard.....then it might be a fake one......
*
QUOTE(estcin @ May 12 2015, 05:41 PM)
Now new format is black and white photo liao. Much like the Japan visa last time and also look like obituary tongue.gif  tongue.gif
*
No Problem one

Last time in 2013 i renew my passport and got the chip but was colour photo

A few weeks after that, they change to obituary style photo

If you can use Malaysia autogate system then automatically can qualify for visa exemption

Hi all,
I'm planning to visit Japan from 24/06/2015 - 06/07/2015 inclusive.
We are thinking to do as below and would appreciate all the guidance all of you could provide us

24/06 - Arrive Tokyo Narita > Go to Kyoto

25/06 - Kyoto

26/06 - Kyoto

27/06 - Kyoto > Osaka > Back to Kyoto

28/06 - Kyto > Kobe > Back to Kyoto

29/06 - Kyoto > Hakone ( Assume the 2 days free Hakone pass will suffice? bad timing ropeway is closed due to earthquake.

30/06 - Hakone

01/07 - Hakone > Tokyo( Disneyland )

02/07 - Tokyo - Is it worth going Disney sea?

03/07 - Shinjuku Will wonder around Tokyo
04/07 - Shinjuku
05/07 - Shinjuku
06/07 - Shinjuku (Flight is at 1050pm)

Yes, I'm sure heaps of similiar questions has been asked before the thread is so popular and long !
I'm grateful if anyone could entertain my questions. sweat.gif

Am cracking head on which type/pass of transportation to use to get around these places - JR 7 days pass?

Would like to experience shinkansen at least.

Also thinking of air bnb ( any suggestions much appreciated ) VS. hotels .

So far hotel seems to be same price or cheaper than air bnb ( air bnb provides wifis ).

We love food - so any cafes or restaurants recommendation are welcome!!

If anyone can share share their similiar itinerary would be aweosome!

*where is the best place for night view of skyline?

Thanks all! notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif
*
Wah, Your plan so much criss crossing rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

I prefer Airbnb more than hotels as it's cheaper and i love the "Home" feeling. Feels really authentic to live in a working class neighborhood than to stay at a posh place in the middle of downtown

Btw, Dont rely on the MIFI devices that some airbnb host give out, much better off renting one yourself as some of those given have poor receptions and short battery life

I only spent about RM 125 on average for my accommodating in tokyo/osaka per night by using Airbnb exclusively

hi sensei,

suica/pasmo cannot be purchase/recharged using cc?
in that case, i may want to convert more yen before going there.

AFAIK, Suica cant be reloaded using CC unless your using mobile suica or view suica

QUOTE
Only yen may be used to load a card. A credit card cannot be used to load a Suica.

Not to worry bro, The machine to reload at the stations have english menu on it, just bring extra yen and save back the credit card surcharge thumbup.gif

we will just be using iphones- can that work?  is free wifi widely or?
cool!
*
"Free" does not exist there lol after you step out of the airport

To think of it, i only used before free wifi at KIX and NRT biggrin.gif

Even at large departmental store like Time square require you to go to their kiosk to get your 1 hour wifi pass

MIFI is a portable wifi hotspot la, You go rent 1 and then your free to go or you can buy mobile DATA ONLY sim card

what do you mean by local lines?
local line as if non jr-east line?
*
The rail lines either the JR or Private lines

I stayed with my host in akasaka so the subway was really convenient as there was like 3 subway lines in 1km radius from my host house while the nearest JR is like 1.4km away IIRC

The attractions that i wanted to visit have subway station that is close to them so thats why i emphasize more on subways than train lines when i was at tokyo. Not sure about your situation thou, Better look up into it if your place is more subway friendly or train lines friendly

AFAIK,you can only buy that subway pass at the airports counter and BIC camera selected shops, i got mine as a bundle with my NRT-Tokyo station bus ticket

Nice itinerary lol

I hope they would put more exhibition item inside Himeji castle, There was absolutely nothing inside the main keep except for some of the ancient technique and construction material on display and a a wishing well kind of thing on the highest floor

The gun racks was even empty, i think it was because of the renovation that was just finishing up
Was kinda a let down to climb up steep stairs to reach the 6th floor for that sweat.gif

Yeah, some blogs also wrote the same thing. Maybe still not fully operational for viewing yet. I have not decided whether wanna go inside the castle or not coz i heard the queue is long. Any other nice stuffs in Himeji apart from the castle? Is the shopping street from Himeji Station to the castle worth going or similar to other shopping streets in osaka/kyoto? If more or less the same, then will conserve energy and take bus direct to the castle.
*
Que was not long, The most farkap part is that the stone steps going into the main keep and even the stairs inside there was of irregular size

The height of some of the staircases are so low that even the shorter japanese people have to bend over when going up and down , I have to walk in a crouching like position when climbing and going down the stairs in the main keep sweat.gif

Used up about 1 1/2 hour on the castle lol, Definitely will not go there again if it's still empty. I had a much better experience in osaka castle sweat.gif

The Kokoen garden was nice for a chance, Got a lot of variety for the flora.

However i'll probably be give himeji castle a pass if i were you since you already plan to go to 4 castle with another 1 more on the optional list. I was worn out from the "Oh god, not another castle / garden tour " when i was in tokyo as i have seen 2 castle and 2 garden during my time in kansai rclxub.gif

If want to spice it up, Rent a bike from the tourist office la. It's FOC . About a 5 min cycle to the castle . Saw a few ang moh doing that. rclxms.gif

lol you notice that i will be covering a few castles this time. last time temples and shrines. i think most will be outer area only except for nijo castle. with your feedback about the climbing part, i will cancel out going inside.

you did himeji 1 full day?
*
The castle ground was FOC so you can jalan jalan around if you want. Souvenir shop is also before the ticket booth entrance so can buy some refreshment and light snacks if your tired / hungry

Did half day there. Nothing much spectacular about the shopping street. Look pretty generic to me so i just stroll through it sweat.gif

Will be fun to hear your review if you plan to do 1 full day there thumbup.gif
