can't help you with parking in Otaru. Google map the area to get an idea
i'm expecting traffic to be high during the time you are there and parking maybe a challenge to find
As for food, there are lots of eateries there. It depends one what you want
There's a place called Masazushi which seemed very popular. Didn't manage to go in when i was there due to an estimated 1hour wait (and also because i had enough of queuing from the previous day's dinner of about 2 hours in JR Tower). You can try your luck. The area around there has some road side parking too. If you are lucky enough, you can park there, eat around there, and then walk down to the canal
alternatively, there's a popular soba place near the JR station in Otaru
but what i like best are the many shops around Otaru that sells grilled fresh, live seafood
you may want to save some space for the dessert (Le Tao, Kitakaro, etc). It's good but i won't say the best in Hokkaido (best for me is in Furano), but treat it as a rite of passage, just like going to Tsukiji when in Tokyo

Tips on buying Burberry Black Label and Blue Label.
There is one Burberry in Ginza...many floors  blink.gif

But I didn't buy from there...instead i went to Takashimaya in Namba, Osaka. Most of the departmental stores have 5% discount voucher for tourists. Just go to the information counter, show your passport and they will give you the vouchers. Takashimaya gave me a Hello Kitty discount card which I was so happy to keep as a souvenir smile.gif

So we bought our black and blue label from there. Purchase apparels, toys + bags above 10001yen (exclude tax) in one or accumulated receipts in one day in one store, can get 6.9% tax refund (1.1% is their handling service fee). On top of that, I get 5% discount on my bags and shoes too smile.gif
*
ah, almost forgotten about the tourist discount from Takashimaya
i heard the handling charges are different across different companies

in addition, my friend mentioned that some luxury goods shops (i doubt departmental stores) gives discount if you pay by cash.
didn't try that out though. anyone with experience on this?

Hi there, just wonder what is the best way to enjoy the Shirakawago Winter Light Up Event as overnight there is not an option, fully booked. So, have to resort to a Day trip...
a) by Bus (Nohi Bus) from Takayama to Shirakawago? It is difficult to secure a bus ticket? From their website, can only do reservation by phone call? Also, their last return bus is scheduled at 17:20? Any other mode of transport other than Nohi esp while at Shirakawago.
b) by Private tour
Thanks in advance  rclxms.gif

i took a tour organized by the Nohi group
booked and paid online through their website

You don't need transport in Shirakawago itself actually

To be honest, your time spent in Otaru is quite short
With the expected human traffic, you may not have time for much things to do there
Plan properly and have a list sorted by priority

1st Question to ask : should i carry my luggage all the time , or should i put at kyoto shinkansen station or put at hotel.
I worried the hotel not allow me to put the luggage and worried shinkansen there dont have place to store my big luggage (20kg luggage)

2nd Question : should i depart around 6 instead of 7 ? just to be safe to not missed the last shinkansen which is 930pm
3rd Question : Is it all bus ticket or shinkanse or train ticket no need to buy in advance and just purchase directly on the spot?

Please Guide or help or comment about my itineary if need any fix electron lucaswjk RegentCid

if you plan to build some nice muscles, then yes, you should bring the luggage along tongue.gif
carrying luggage up-down bus and trains and inside train station.... your luggage must be quite small and light
it's not all flat roads all the way

Alright, will take note of that. thumbup.gif
Yeah, basically I'm just recycling my clothes that I used in Beijing winter, heard the places I will go will not be that cold compared to Beijing.
I used to wear only two layers (one layer of clothes + winter jacket)in Beijing but will wear three layers now since I'm not that well. Just bought another jacket yesterday from Uniqlo.
Yeah, that kind of questions really make people angry. I think even in any other thread. tongue.gif

my travel basic necessities to stay healthy:
- Evian
- Vit C
- Multi vits

Multi-vit is normal daily intake
when feel heaty or falling sick, then Evian (at least 1.5 litre a day) + 3x daily dose of vit C

and keep your neck, feet and palms warm. those are they key areas

Hi sifus,

I'll be going to Tokyo for my very first Japan trip end of April.

Will be departing from kul to Narita airport, I have not yet done my itinerary yet. But there are places that I plan to visit like Disneyland, akihabara, Mt Fuji, and etc.

I'll be there for 9 days.

I have some questions regarding Accomodation, I have gone through booking com, Agoda, japanica, tripadvisor,  but still did not manage to get the right hotel with the right budget.

I know about the rooms are very small there, and the beds too. Me and my partner are quite BIG in size. Its impossible to fit into one single bed.

Could anyone recommend me any hotel which have:

King or Queen size bed
walking distance to train station (less than 500m)
budget RM 300~350 per night, RM3000 for 9 days.

I'm currently looking at Pearl hotel Yeasu near Tokyo station.

Thanks.
*
bring up the map in the booking website such as agoda, then start looking from the location of the train station
tokyo station area is typically more expensive, you may want to try other areas such as Ueno, Ikebukuro, etc

Guys, once I reach Shibuya from Narita airport, I will meet up my colleague at Roppongi for lunch because our Tokyo office is in Roppongi. I know that Roppongi doesn't have many things to explore and it's considered expensive to shop there. It has beautiful night view but that's at night. Anything that worth for me to visit during day time? If no, I will skip this and go to Imperial Palace. It's a pity that I couldn't get the free tour but I guess that's not a big issue. biggrin.gif

Then I will find something to walk around that area before going back to Shibuya again to meet my friend for dinner. Probably will explore Harajuku. I will also walk around Shibuya that night and want to witness the famous Shibuya Crossing. laugh.gif I will also visit the statue of the most loyal dog - Hachiko.

Is this a good idea? Any suggestion is welcomed, I know I could be really exhausted on that day because I will touch down early in the morning... sad.gif

If you collect hard rock stuff, there's one in Roppongi.
Look out for hello kitty themed stuffs.

That looks like a hectic but interesting itinerary.

I am going to Osaka for the first time this May. Would appreciate some information :

1) with regards to buying Japan Rail Pass : do I have to buy an Exchange Order from here before I go to Japan? If so, where can I get this from?
2) I am confused by the many types of transport passes available. Can someone please help me understand better? I intend to go straight to Kyoto from Kansai Airport, stay three nights there and take a day trip to Nara, then go back to Osaka for the last three nights. Do I need to get a Pass? If so, which one?

Thanks very much in advance.
*
you'll need to get the JR pass outside Japan but exchange your order booklet for a pass in Japan
You can do it at the airport.
If you don't plan to start using it immediately, tell the officer the starting desired start date so that it will be properly marked in the pass

ok a?

the pricing for 1 or more person?
why are you considering the JR Hokkaido and JR East pass separately?
see if you can arrange such that you can fit the days you plan to use both pass into 7 days and get the JR Rail Pass
should work out to be cheaper

Anyone can suggest how to go to hokkaido from narita ?
I search the 2 air flight from the link given there's no flight on the date i chosen.

Fyi,i'm planning to go there on Jan 19 which i arrived japan.

As wat i know i can travel by using JR pass but i take 10 hours++..

We're concerning about the budget
*
much less flight from Narita to Haneda
If i remember correcttly, ANA has flight from Narita to Sapporo, but not many
From Haneda, you should be able to find hourly or more frequent flights

Why from Narita? Are you planning to land there and then switch to a flight for Sapporo?

Where got flight from Narita to Haneda.
From KL to Sunway distant also need flight?
ANA and JAL got provided shuttle Bus transit between this 2 airport. But you must have Air Ticket to proof only can ride this bus.

oopss, typo there

yaya..i did search for that date i do have.
But when searching for Jan 2016 i cant see any flight from NRT-HND to CTS.
Some did but costs 4k++..(ANA)

Currently i see peach airline is doing promo. but jan 2016 isn't include in.
Wonder whether y the period ticket hard to get.

I searched for the airline suggested by RegentCid but cant find though..

Btw..I'm first time traveler and this is my first free and easy trip biggrin.gif
*
ah, January
That explains it
That's the winter season, heavy snow, airport usage will be less reliable, hence less flight
for ANA, not sure if the tourist promo is applicable during that time.
With that promo the fare for tourist only usually is around 10k yen per flight within Japan
look it up
JAL has similar promo too if not mistaken
