The tateyama full alpine route is opened on 16/4 onwards. Does this means that before that we will not be able to go visit the snow wall at mt. tateyama?
I'll be arriving at KIX and departing from HND. Will be planning to travel Osaka, Kyoto, Nara (pending), then to Tokyo with a total of 12 days. Is it recommended to get the JR pass? I was told by my friend who went last year that if I only travel 1 way via the shinkansen it's not worth to get the JR pass. Is that correct? Thanks

Anyone rented a pocket wifi in Japan? Did a search and found a few companies offering that service eg. eConnect, Pupuru, Global Advanced etc. Any recommendations on which one is better? Thanks

Im also travelling to Japan end of this month 24/3 - 4/4. Doing a rather weird route cause most of the hotels are fully booked. Till now I still have yet to book a place to stay in Tokyo and Hakone.
Will be arriving at Osaka and will stay there for bout 4 days and travel to Kyoto and Nara. Then depart to Tokyo from Osaka most likely via Shinkansen.
From Tokyo, will stay for a few days then head to Hakone for a night/day trip (still looking for an affordable place), then back to Tokyo again. Then from Tokyo will be travelling to Takayama for a night and back to Tokyo again for the flight back to KUL. Was busy with work and didn't really look for hotels and now really headache.lol

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Mar 11 2015, 11:58 PM) Super weird route. Should be Osaka > Nagoya(Takayama) > Odawara (Hakone) > Tokyo. Ya indeed its weird. Partly because I planned it abit late. Most of the hotels are not available anymore, except those 5 star crazy expensive hotels. So current plan is to travel according to the hotel availability. haih..

I booked a hotel at Lake Kawaguchiko area since the ryokans at Hakone are mostly fully booked and over my budget. The Fuji Hakone Pass covers transport for both Kawaguchiko and Hakone but it's valid for 3 days whereas I plan to be there for 2 days only. I plan to visit Hakone as well since I guess there are more attractions there. Is it still worth it to get the pass? Or just get a Hakone Free Pass and pay for rest of the transport?

QUOTE(lucaswjk @ Mar 18 2015, 03:40 PM) u forget to add... unlimited cable car unlimited ropeway unlimited pirate ship unlimited bus around hakone unlimited bus to gotemba btw i didnt take any bus in kawaguchiko and the fuji hakone pass is 3days seriously speaking, hakone is oni worth single trip in your lifetime after this, u dont even wan to go back it is overrated, long traveling time, limited choice of hotel and food oni go if u wan sulfur egg and onsen skip the rest My gf keep wanting to spend a night there cos might get a good view of mt fuji. So just give it a try. By the way nothing much at Kawaguchiko also right? I think the hotel that I'm staying is 10-15minute walk away from the nearest bus stop.

From what I understand most passes are based on calendar days rather than the actual time. It will expire on the 3rd day regardless of what time you used it on the first day.
4 days to go before returning to Malaysia, walking non stop everyday till feet sore. Kyoto and Tokyo crowded like mad

QUOTE(Tally33 @ Apr 1 2015, 11:35 PM) hey guys, i have read v5 n v6, so i will be travelling to tokyo 16/9-24/9. I will be arriving at around 12am, so i plan to stay at hotel nearby airport, next day straight buy hakone 2day pass and travel down to hakone+mt fuji, then after two days in Hakone, I will back to tokyo, stay nearby tsukiji market to see the fish auction then the next day move to shinjuku and travel around the city then spend one day in Disneysea. Basically, its airport-->hakone-->tsukiji market-->shinjuku-->disneysea, so i need to move to 4 different hotels, i feel thats abit troublesome. Can give some opinion or comment on this itinerary? I got a nice view of Mt Fuji at hakone but it was quite cloudy and can only manage to see the base from Kawaguchiko during the next day. The bus to 5th station was not available, only 4th station which is a car park which I didn't go. ( I was there on 1/4, I think it'll be available when you go since it's summer). Buses at hakone and Mt Fuji area end quite early, mostly no more buses by 7pm, so better plan on your return bus.

QUOTE(Tally33 @ Apr 7 2015, 04:32 PM) actually my purpose to Hakone is for Mt Fuji, so according to this http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5203.html, Hakone Free Pass can do that, I cant go Kawaguchiko at the same day? I mean i just drop by Owakudani and Gotemba as suggested by u masters, then straight go Kawaguchiko? is it ok? Sorry my homework still havent complete. Im aware of the pass is for 2 days, but this is budget trip (student budget only), so i dont plan to overnight there. Btw, i already booked and paid 7 nights @ E Hotel, i find the place quite convenient, i hope its really like what they described there, one min from Higashi-Shinjuku Station. So, i plan to drink around tsukiji market which is suggested by someone here, until 3am then go queue for the auction. not so crazy i guess. btw, my sis wants to go to Tokyo zoo, i dont see anyone here suggests to go zoo, is it not worth visiting? I travelled to hakone and kawaguchiko in 2 days, spending a night at kawaguchiko. Since I only travel 1 way, I only purchased the Hakone Free Pass and surprisingly they allowed me to buy the discounted pass for 4000 yen in Shinjuku. Since I have JR pass, I took the shinkansen to Odawara and from there onwards use the free pass around Hakone and went to Gotemba. From Gotemba took a bus to Kawaguchiko station costing 1510yen. Explore around the lake on the next day and took the train back to Tokyo.
