Allocated two days one night for Nikko + Okunikko trip, on late October (Sun-Mon). A bit worried about the crowd.  rclxub.gif

Will get All Nikko Pass.

Planning to stay at Yumoto Onsen area.

Day 1 (Sun)
Depart from Ginza St to Asakusa St to Tobu Nikko St in the morning. Gonna store our luggage at the train station coin locker and pack essentials only into backpack.
Temple and shrine visit at Nikko Town
Take Tobu Bus to Ryuzu Falls and hike from there to Yumoto Onsen via Senjohara Marshland. (either that or store backpack at ryokan at Yumoto Onsen first and take bus back to Ryuzu Falls and hike back to ryokan before dinner time)
Stay a night and enjoy onsen.

Day 2 (Mon)
Check out from ryokan.
Take bus from Yumoto Onsen to Chuzenji Lake area for visit: Kegon Falls, Hangetsuyama Observation Point, Akechidaira Plateau Cable Car.
Temple and shrine visit at Nikko Town (in case cannot make it in Day 1)
Back to Tobu Nikko St and back to Tokyo.

Feasible plan? Any comments?

There are so many temples and shrines in Nikko, which one is the must-visit shrine? of course if time allows, we will try to visit all of them.

Another question. I am trying to reserve bus from Takayama-Shirakawago-Kanazawa via J-bus online reservation site.

Successfully registered an account using a Katakana Romaji name of mine.  rclxub.gif ... have absolutely no idea wat to fill in for the phone number section.

In that case, how should I go about booking the bus ticket? Or they don't really care about the details, as long as you can produce the booking slip or booking number, it should be alright?
*
You should reserve through Nohi Bus
http://www.nouhibus.co.jp/english/bus_tour.html

more better

Been to this website to check before, but their online reservation is only for tour.  sad.gif

Back to Takayama again or wait at Shirakawa-Go for bus to Kanazawa.

At Takayama Nohi Bus Center.
First you need buy 2 ticket. One ticket was This Tour Ticket.
2nd Ticket was From Shirawa-go to kanazawa ticket.
After Tour you can tell tour guide saying I will stay at Shirawago, not going back to Takayama.
Nohi Express bus From takayama to Kanazawa will arrived 15:57 & dep from Shirawa-go 16:25. << reserve This Ticket when you at Takayama

Near our hotel in Osaka, there are 3 stations:
1. JR Namba Station
2. Namba Station
3. Daikukocho Station
Can we use our JR pass in all 3 stations?
*
Jr pass only can used on JR train. Which mean only JR namba station only.

But why need to transfer train since it's still on Osaka Loop Line (Inner Loop)? It's seems not practical to transfer train within one minute. I think it's the same train somehow coz there are two arrows pointing to the next station. Those station that require transfer is showing the "T" symbol.
*
Loop doesn't mean the Train are moving 360 degree. If you see the Map properly. Osaka Station was at 12 O'clock and Tennoji Station was 6 O'Clock. Each train only run 180 degree.

Even Tokyo Yamamote Line also same. It was a loop line but the train won't run 360. Inner and Outer loop just run 180

Can share your tips? I am planning to travel to Koyasan/Osaka/Kyoto/Takayama/Kanazawa in November for 10 days and my budget is to spend less than RM5K per person.

This is my first time doing a self planning overseas trip and I am still figuring and trying to understand their complicated transportation system.
*
10 days for going these place will be wasting of money. Recommend Minimum 14 - 16 days.
If only 10 days then just focus on Koyasan + Osaka + Kobe + Kyoto + Nara

Why wasting of money?? To visit all the above city in ten days is possible, Koyasan 2D1N, Kyoto 3N, Osaka 2N, Takayama 1N and Kanazawa 1N. And we will just selectively visit the spot that we like. My neighbor did that in 8 days.

Of course we would want to spend more days if time is permitted. It's hard to take long holidays due to works commitment.
*
Kyoto 3N + Osaka 2N not even can cover the City 30% Potential. With my standard.
Takayama + Kanazawa minus the traveling time...You only can cover 15% of the area potential, my standard.

I dunno who high was your standard as Sightseeing. I as the Master of this thread. We take one example, If you just spent one night in Takayama minus the traveling time, The time you left can sightseeing only 15% from what I know about Takayama than you.

Every time I read people schedule. I will do the statistic about how many % you as cover as that area. If you can cover 30-50% mostly I will say Go ahead // I will help you adding more up to 55 - 60%

If you take my advise just focus Koyasan + Osaka + Kyoto in 10 days...you can spent more time in City, discover it even more. Seriously you can ask anyone here, 3 Night in Kyoto enough or not? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Ya, can't agreed more on your advice. That's the reason why I would take the challenge to plan my own itinerary this time rather than follow group tours.

But then, I really don't plan to visit all shrine and temples in Kyoto and have little interest on the City walk/shopping at Osaka.

For Kyoto, I will just visit 2-3 shrine in 1.5 days + 1 full day in Takao + Arashiyama.

As for Takayama, Shirakawa-go and Kanazawa. I really don't want to miss although the traveling time is long. 15% is alright as long as I got chance to cover the place that I want to go.

Anyway, I still have few months to restructure the plan.

Thanks for your sharing ya.
*
Your money then as you wish. biggrin.gif
But I will very sure later you will complaint here saying , Not enough time

some questions about the JR Rail Pass

for reserved seats, we have to go to the counter to reserve and collect reserved seats ticket from there. For reservation through online, how's the procedure like?

how about for unreserved seats, do we just show the pass at the manned gate and no tickets required?
*
Online reserve seat are complicated. Just reserve the seat when you at Station. Easy. Plus the office girl are Cantik!!!!
If non reserse seat then just pass gate by showing JR Rail Pass.
Mind you if Non Reserve Seat section was full, you need to standing all the way Or even you half way you going toilet, come back your seat will be taken.

I plan to go straight to Kyoto after arriving at Kansai airport, Osaka.

Should I take the Haruka line to Kyoto? Can I use the Kansai Thru Pass to take the Haruka or do I have to use some other way?
*
JR ''Haruka'' was fastest way from Kansai International Airport to Kyoto Station.
Haruka was JR train. So it won't cover by Kansai thru Pass. You have to buy the ticket with Money or used JR Rail Passes.

Refresh Square or KIX Airport Lounge??

KIX airport lounge better.
More expensive, 6 hour payment are 2640 Yen but you got unlimited drinks and food. Add additional 310 Yen for Shower.

Refresh Square are 1490 Yen for 7 hour. But no drinks and food. Shower need add additional 510 Yen

Depend how much you do the homework on Kobe. Eating Kobe beef just one of thing only.
More homework you do, more stuff you will find out.

Kobe worth spent whole day. But no need stay overnight.

not recommended, not bcoz of the prices or queue 2-3hours
i suspect they sold Fatty Tuna as Semi Fatty to me... unethical
i tried 2pieces of Fatty Tuna, the first one is lack of Fat line,
the second one is the worst... the fish tendon is cut differently... hv to chew it
*
You must be order Trust the Chef set (Omakase Course)
It only serve 1 Fatty Tuna only (Toro) , 2nd Tuna will be call Zuke (Marinated Tuna) not belly part.
Zuke you need to chew.
