initial planning right now, numbers of day is 15 days total. but not sure how to allocate yet. I am planning the journey so that we might not need to waste return train trips.

Flying in from Osaka:

Osaka (been here before, will spend the least amount of days here. Is it worth considering to have this as a base to travel to Nara/Kyoto? or should i move hotels and stay in Nara/Kyoto. I honestly prefer the pace of life in Nara/Kyoto. Osaka is much like Tokyo which will be featured quite heavily in the end of my trip)

to

Koya-san(Still KIV, love the view but may not be too keen in staying in a temple and the cost is a little over the budget) or Takayama (but will be later if it is )

to

Nara

to

Kyoto

to

Nagoya

to

Takayama (love the rural setting/post town setting of this town) / Hakone (fiancee would love to try to get a glimpse of mt fuji. even if not in full view at least near it haha)

to

Tokyo (will fly off from here )

Questions I would like to ask, if from Nagoya to Hakone. Is there a post town which I can visit which is similar to Takayama? I might want to skip koyasan. Would like to spend 1 or 2 nights in a rural setting and enjoy japanese small town culture.

Thank you in advance to sifus here.

EDIT : found there is kiso valley which fits the itinerary . =) would love to hear from sifus here if there is any notable places i should not miss out on?

thanks!

So far most notable is to get from Nagoya to Nakatsugawa.

From there we go to Magome via Bus and forward our luggages through the information center from Magome to Tsumago.

Plan to take the beautiful trail from Magome to Tsumago, and homework shows Magome to Tsumago less uphill than the other way round.

Did more h/w and seems to me like there is no direct access from Kiso Valley to Hakone. Still have to go back to Shinjuku. From Shinjuku, will utilize the Hakone Free Pass to get to hakone and can try their romance car. haha

Was wondering if Kiso to Hakone is possible, seems likely not through hyperdia.

i went to hokkaido in autumn... 2years back...
u can ask me... biggrin.gif icon_idea.gif

basically, my itinerary is all driving... 50% places is not accessible by train... some got bus

although autumn start around Sept...
my recommendation better go in the Middle of Oct to Early Nov...

1) Furano, Hokkaido at night+raining... the weather can hit 0°C
2) Jozankei + Sounkyo, Hokkaido... the mountain might snow...
3) Driving from Furano onward... mountain area... be prepare for FOG+Rain DRIVING

Hokkaido only awake during Winter only.  Autumm season best time was Moutain Hiking, enjoying whole moutain in yellow colour. but your wife sure don't want this activities.

Basically you go Hokkaido at Autumm will boring like gila.  Furano is only thing you still can enjoy at Hokkaido during Autumm.  Don't expect to see any Lavender anymore.

Conclusion...except sea food, Autumm ...boring !!!

i like autumn... in last 8/10years... all my holiday in autumn whistling.gif

Lavender still can see, it really depends on the farm...
and there are many other flowers tat bloom on autumn wink.gif

the oni cant see is the sunflower... tat one need togo summer sad.gif

hi guys/girls

just wanna confirm about the universal studios express pass tickets here : http://www.usj.co.jp/e/ticket/

Under the express pass price list, there are 2 different prices

5,463 yen (5,900 yen with tax) & 7,593 yen(8,200 yen with tax)

are those prices meant to be the adult & children prices ( the more expensive one being for adults) OR does it mean 1 day & 2 day express passes? because I can't seem to find any indication that the 2 different prices are meant for the adults/children or the 1 or 2 days passes

Wow I have walked a couple of places in Namba and Umeda and can't find anywhere that has Yamazaki 12 in stock. Hakushu 12 yes, but not Yamazaki 12. I've even called up the duty free shops in Kansai airport and I can't find any in stock. Tomorrow is my last day and I'm contemplating on whether to run and get it from the Distilery before I leave..
