is end of December a good time to go Chubu for winter? mainly Gero onsen, Takayama, Shirakawago, Nagano (can skip in dec?), matsumoto...

any advise?
*
The snow country is best to go early Jan, around 8th Jan onwards. Don't go during 1st Jan week cos it's Japan holiday and alot of people. Some shops are even closed. Feb also can, just worry that too heavy snow and some train service are cancelled.

a question, does the metro 3 day pass covers shinjuku line? also the 3 day pass is a ticket type right? how to use it at the train station? scan or anything?
*
Yes it cover shinjuku, shinjuku is the largest interchange station.
JR, Odakyu, Toei, Metro, Bus, etc... all meet there

They hv 1day, 2days and max 3days card
When enter or exit station, u jus need to slide in and collect back.
Not scaning like touch n go, like car park ticket but u can get it back.

If still donno, look for youtube video yawn.gif

When you reach there, you will know it automatically. I think it is very easy to tell apart if a card is IC Type or Ticket type.

Seriously, need not to be hyper-panic over small issues.

I booked a hotel at Lake Kawaguchiko area since the ryokans at Hakone are mostly fully booked and over my budget. The Fuji Hakone Pass covers transport for both Kawaguchiko and Hakone but it's valid for 3 days whereas I plan to be there for 2 days only. I plan to visit Hakone as well since I guess there are more attractions there. Is it still worth it to get the pass? Or just get a Hakone Free Pass and pay for rest of the transport?

Calculate the whole trip cost and then compare with the pass...then you will know worth to get it or not wink.gif

MYR is valueless for them, in fact MYR is not widely acceptable in money changers around the world. laugh.gif
Just change everything here and if it is not enough, withdraw money from ATM but make sure you activate overseas withdrawal from your local bank first before you go.

My gf keep wanting to spend a night there cos might get a good view of mt fuji. So just give it a try. By the way nothing much at Kawaguchiko also right? I think the hotel that I'm staying is 10-15minute walk away from the nearest bus stop. sweat.gif

Mt Fuji can only view from "certain" place around Hakone
and u NEED A LOT OF LUCK
better chance if u go during WINTER and at the DAWN
it is covered by cloud/fog most of the time

i went during winter oso cannot see the nearest mountain, not to mention mt fuji

Gotemba and Kawaguchiko hv better chances to view mt fuji
and the best is... goto Mt Fuji Subaru 5th Station... if not available... goto 4th Station

---
kawaguchi hv museum, theme park, nearby ski resort, kachi2 ropeway etc...
last month i went there... the have Mt Fuji Winter Festival and tons of Firework (Mt Fuji's Day wub.gif )

and beware the ppl at Kawaguchiko Station... especially ticket seller... very lansi... rude...
if u got anything to ask.... u better ask next door tourist center

Mt Fuji is usually shy most of the time, covered by clouds even in winter. FYI, winter is the best time to view mount fuji and early morning.

I went in Jan and I was in Tokyo for 3 days. 2days weather was cloudy and the 3rd day, we were lucky to view it....
