Honestly, nowadays, there is nothing to show off when it come to Platinum card, moreover a Gold card.  sweat.gif

An Infinite card and above card level may do the work provided the benefits of the card are applicable to the cardholder.  smile.gif

As benefits are not benefits if it's not being utilise.  tongue.gif

Not to mention the AF cannot be waived for such card sweat.gif

For Visa Infinite, some bank offer lifetime fee waiver when the customer meet certain criteria, some bank require a certain amount of spending per annum in order to waive off the charges and lots of bank willing to waive off the charges for high AUM customers for retention purpose.

The card that couldn't get waiver will be Amex Platinum charge card, customer need to pay 1st and they will credit 100k or 200k points to their account as loyalty rewards.

And of course we can't miss Centurion Card, upfront fee payment that come with lots of perks, mostly airline and hotel voucher or branded discount.  wink.gif

So Infinite or WMC that doesn't require to pay the fee in whichever circumstances are really good card to keep for the benefits of dining discount, tickets purchase, Premium Lounge access, complimentary green fee for golf and so on...  icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, I get card is to get cash backs and spend accordingly by my means.
Not getting cards that I need to spend way by my means doh.gif
Most people fall under this.
Like my auntie still keep her SC silver card for the past 20 years that with the CL of 100k shocking.gif

Means to say that 6% on RM800 annual fee the new tax will be RM48, RM2 discount compare to current GST of RM50  biggrin.gif
*
Is still GST what whistling.gif
And forgot to mention, that 18% of interest will be subjected to 6% GST also, as card issuer won't say that's interest but as financial fees/charges.

Agree with you that credit card usage suppose to be within our means and the usage shall compliment us in a constructive way such as cash back or reward points in return compare to cash term.

No point to pay more in term of financial charges or all kinds of fee just to carry the card for the so call "Prestige" that doesn't bring much benefits other than showing off which is meaningless if it only function is to dish out the cardholder pocket money rather than benefits them in term of savings.  sweat.gif

From last June till this April only my spending are very high, since I need to buy flight tickets often. All are business BTW whistling.gif
I even ask for temporary increase and I got it. rm15000 are more than enough for me for my day to day spending, most of the time will be only rm1000-1500. Still just buy a return ticket for rm7200 with my AMEX, Fark the weak rm against Qatari Riyal doh.gif
Will try to buy flight tickets before April, so I can exchange the TPs before it depreciates thumbup.gif

Comparing the rates of OCBC Titanium card and Maybank Amex, amex rates are better. Used it for airbnb accomodation booking & UK train tickets purchase as well. I'm attaching screenshot of my statement below for reference.

[attachmentid=4377211]

[attachmentid=4377212]

1st pic is for Maybank amex. The USD:MYR exchange rate is 1:3.68 where in the 2nd pic, refer to the skype transaction USD:MYR would be 1:3.76.

Another transaction would be the Airbnb on 28th Feb, 205 USD :RM 768.51 which is 1:3.74. Based on this I would say maybank amex rate is still better compared to OCBC mastercard.
*
Not really, it depends greatly on timing and the rate used by issuing banks.

Ady ammended make initial post. Comparing to both same transactions in USD on 2nd march still shows similar rate.
*
It depend greatly on which country you are.
Like US and SG, it will fluctuate more. Like now i in Qatar, it may change as long as 1 month.
Best of all, Visa's rate are same as AMEX now in Qatar:sweat:
If you are just a short term period visitor, it won't affect much.

I tried so far on the spot redemption, choose an item and redeem instantly at Harvey Norman Midvalley.
Well, groceries and stuff sold in HN are different. sweat.gif
Nevertheless, my friend just started to use the card in Nov or Dec, managed to redeem two Aeon Big gift card since she needs to buy groceries and always from Midvalley.
*
HN stuffs will be only cheap on the display set, other than that I don't see their price are cheaper than smaller scale shops.

Do you mean AeonBig gives extra RM5 to gift card holder on every 28th of the month?

Nope, 25000TP can get rm105 for the start.
If you use it every 28th, get extra 5% thumbup.gif

RM50 gift card with 6250TP.... at SenHeng/SenQ.... approx. left with 3.75k TP= RM15....
*
But is first rm50 only, not all.
But most of their stuffs are 10% more expensive, so that rm50 are nothing basically.
Like a Panasonic 50A410 need rm2499 while I got it at rm2100, that's rm399 difference.
With this rm50, I still over paying rm349 doh.gif

harvey norman will discount heavily on certain products as promotion or to clear stock. i have personally bought a brand new sony tv which is 50% off the RRP, and it was only 5 units per branch.

my colleague have bought a galaxy note 1 for only RM1K, same thing, 5 units per branch, few years back when it was the latest model from samsung.

if you are a bit more resourceful in comparing prices and willing to wait, you will definitely land some sweet deals. harvey norman is a big chain, they can afford to give heavy discounts just to clear stocks.
*
Well, I won't wait like that. Time = money.
