any tips for making sure the transaction is on weekend?

There are posting date and transaction date.

The posting date is where the merchant submit the claim to bank and got the money
The transaction date is the date where u purchase items, which if falls on weekend, eligible for 5% CB.

So transaction date is 21/2/15 but posting date is 24/2/15 will get the 5% cashback.

You can register your Amex with paypal. However it cannot be used to make any payment in RM (need Visa or Mastercard for that), only for payments that are in other currency (USD etc.)

Need to know whether that online merchant works on weekends. Some do, and others actually batched all weekend transactions and only process them on Monday, making your transaction date Monday.

The one merchant that sure to process on weekend is Paypal. Suggestion is to use Paypal (especially if overseas site) and if you know which country they are in, pay using Paypal on their weekend. Normally I suggest Sunday morning (Malaysia) since that date is usually weekend everywhere else around the world (Saturday morning in US, Saturday night in UK etc.)

regarding AMEX with paypal you can refer more information on the 1st page..

to make sure transaction on weekend really depending on what transaction you are doing..
pay bill/airline/agoda(pay now option) most likely all transaction go through on the spot..
but buying stuff are depend on merchant. some merchant only charge your cc when they start shipping, then it no longer on weekend if they ship on weekdays..

last month i made phone call to etiqa takaful on saturday morning, thought wanna use Amex for car insurance renewal. Yes, they accepted Amex on phone, but actual transaction will be make on weekday. Means they record down my card number, on next working the finance officer will proceed with the transaction. The CS told me no finance officer working on Saturday...

Thought wanna get 5% rebate but failed :-(
