One generation console lasts like maybe 2-3 years before the next one is released. All those accumulated games and accessories become redundant.

What did you do to your previous gen consoles/software/accessories?

2-3 years? I highly doubt it.

The PSone was released in 1995 and there are still people playing it today. It enjoyed a production run of 11 years.

Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation

The PS2 was released in 2000 and there are still loads of games in the market, like the newly released bestseller Okami, or Guitar Hero (which I am playing at the moment).

As console technology develops we see more backwards compatibility built into these devices, ie PS2 can play PS1, PSP can play PS1, DS can play GBA games, Wii can play a whole lot of old games...

Of course the obvious answer is some of the stuff will be sold off to make room for new purchases - but what I'd like to address is your misconception that a console lifecycle is only 2-3 years.

Haha
If nobody keeps up with the new consoles, we will all still be playing games on the super nes
i bought the ps2 4 years after my ps1 and it was such a big jump
just compare the graphics and you know why it is necessary to make newer consoles after a certain period. thats the only way the console industry can compete with pc games. final fantasy 12 will be the last for ps2 . stick with ps2 and it'll be your last FF game!

unless ur grandchildren is under 4 years old. As long as he or she can hold the gamepad and see movement and sound, they enjoy it. (Just like my 3yr old daughter playing my atari 2600!) heh he

anyway, if can't kept all the console, sell it. Like me. Selling my xbox now.

Why even thinking of disposing them? I have a lifetime of regret to remember over when i foolishly sold my SNES console over the shinier PSX (now PS1). Games like Chrono Trigger and FFVI can never be replaced with a newer console!

And also, consoles are meant to generate revenues and hold its position in a particular generation for at least 5 years(with the exception of a few, Virtual Boy, and Dreamcast for example, God bless that Sega Machine, and i still mourn for its demise), that's the general lifetime of a console. You might have been buying the console late in its life, hence thinking that they pulled the plug early on it.

I agree with Stringe. Consider this, you will be able to arrange your consoles for your grand kids in some sort of musuem. Obviously they will laugh at the graphics (this is the future gamers' perceptions on current consoles), just as I laugh at my Atari. Consoles are our legacies. The time will come when you'll miss those old consoles.

Keep them. Even if they are out of order, keep them for the sake of legacies. I still keep my Atari, NES, Megadrive2, Saturn, PsOne, PS2, XBox. I intend to build a special room once I got married. biggrin.gif

I miss the SNES/SEGA/Arcade games eg. Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instinct, Time crisis, Streetfighter, Bomberman, Raiden, etc..

I also miss the old APPLE computer games eg. Droll, Chopper

Where are all the old or new arcade games? I hate the new generation first/second-person shooter and role playing games.

Console life cycle is 5 years average, although Sony claim that their PS3 have some figure around 10 years, i highly doubt that. (PC platform by next year would have been on par or faster with these new gen of console in terms of pure performance smile.gif )

But of course console isnt all about pure performance, still, 10 years is... donsnt seems possible at all, esp they are not alone with Microsoft xBox console competing with them.

Anyway, these new console can play back old games, or so I heard. Logically, shouldnt be a problem anyway. And so long as the old games still appeals to u, u can play them on ur new PS3.

Accesories, ok, maybe u can keep them in ur store room. But old games, u can play them if u wants to. If not, then thats the case of the games no longer appeals to u, which has nothing to do with console lifecycle. Its just the game itself.

just my 2 cent
My old PS1 spoiled already, but I still play gran turismo 2 on my pc thru emulator. the game still very much appeals to me biggrin.gif

keep it and play it when u feel like playing those games. selling it is always a bad choice since u r losing money that way. why dun u keep it and u may enjoy the game when u replay it?
