Either buy 9398 or 7938 for the IR and use as spare parts (or find the cheapest set with IR). Remote depends, you may re-use multiple. Or Bricklink, not cheap.
Actually I'm looking to buy couple more IR ... group-buy anyone ?  hmm.gif
Wah, I didn't know locally got. But I bought XL at SGD25 each (conversion rate 2.5 at that time)
Another way also  thumbup.gif

i think this will be my biggest non technic set yet laugh.gif (until i get the ferris wheel tongue.gif )

it is very easy to add power function for this set, just a m-motor and battery (RC part is my optional tongue.gif )
which is quite surprise for me when i add the motor laugh.gif
(that's why there is a small axle under the hand crane which is unused until the power function add in)

the train RC is not bad for this set, i can use it to control speed thumbup.gif
and i just use this to test the LED as well, the train remote can control the brightness of the light as well

yeah, this is a very nice set, have some part that glow at night brows.gif
nice minifigures, some interesting build technique (i think this feature also have in other expert series/modular)
can pack all and squeeze in small place (the truck still a bit long, but for me, can squeeze in my rack is not too big laugh.gif )

i'm very lucky to get this set because when i arrive the store:
-the store actually not open that day but the store owner is there and allow me to go in
-this is the last box...
someone already reserve this last box, but the store owner allow me to grab it since the person still have not pay deposit yet tongue.gif

Side note: Older 8043 versions have the LA problem, which Lego replaced for free. Newer 8043 (before EOL) already comes with newer LA (problem fixed).

what a nice technic set thumbup.gif
too bad i miss the 8043 set cry.gif
but looks like this year 42042 is quite similar with it (maybe only the track part tongue.gif )

QUOTE(maxilife1 @ Jun 22 2015, 03:59 PM)
Finally got time to build..

took 1 whole day from morning to night time yesterday (Sunday)

very difficult when connecting 5-6 pins into the technic bar..need to allign and snap all together

overall a great experience..i love the motorized gearing..

next target will be the volvo!

To me, there is a big difference in playability between a bulldozer/front-loader (8275/42030) vs excavator (8043) vs crane (42009/42042) vs RC (9398/41999), even if it is completely modified.

My opinion on playability, lowest to highest:

Bulldozer/front-loader. It just bull-doze forward action only. RC with either chain or tyre. Not much playability.

Lego Crane - Most of the time only the hook lowers up and down. The weight liftage is a laugh. Crane will topple over easily for heavier weight 500gm+ or if the beam is fully extended. Some more advance will include motorized rotating super-structure. Even more advance/modified will include RC.

RC - Just RC only, moves/crawls faster than any other Lego models. I think plays better than crane.

Excavator - bucket can move. Arm can extend/retract. Super-structure can rotate. Wheel/Track can RC. Just refer to the above Jurgen's video. Full of playability and dexterity to control simultaneously.

Just my 2 cents  icon_rolleyes.gif  I will still buy 42042  tongue.gif
*
haha laugh.gif
it all depend on how the vehicle work, if only move and steer, it will be less move part compare with crane/excavator...
but i don't have the big, black, powerful RC motor so maybe this motor is better for power function motor in RC...

for me, 42042 is a good source of track pieces for me tongue.gif

BTW, anyone know asia brick gathering this sunday brows.gif
