Do you enunciate the words in your head when you read? I've been told that that slows you down quite a bit.

I speed read. I don't really read individual words, but take in entire chunks at the same time. This doesn't really work for 'comprehensive' reading, but works fine if you're reading fiction and are interested mainly in the story.

Any good course/reading material that can help improving speed reading with proper practice?

From my understanding, speed read basically allow us to read chunk of words instead of word by word like you mentioned. But most of the time, i'll just end up reading out (mouthing) or enunciate the words in my head...

yes i do enunciate, i know it helps cause few of my fast reader friends do not enunciate. but i just cant help it, every time i tell myself not to, it automatically does.

get a book you are reeeaaaallly interested in.

Usually that works for me...on average i took around 1 month to finish a 400pages book....minus of work/personal time commitment.

But once you have one that's reeeally captivating, not only will u make time for the book, you will read through pretty fast...

thanks for the advice. On avg. I have no prob to fin up a 400 pages book in 3~4 days. Since i'm doing quite a lot of reading and sometime i need to go over a few books, i would like to practice speed reading if there is a proven method notworthy.gif

Wow..that's awesome speed bro! So far i rarely have chance to even finish a 400 pages book within a week!

You 3-4 days is amazing!! Though do share your secret if it's alright with you..

my 3-4 days reading is not that awesome actually sweat.gif it's just i'm spending more time per reading session doh.gif I think if you sit through the whole weekend with a 400 pages book, you'll finish it in no time.

Hahaa..true also bro. Usually i spend an average of 5 hours per week...only free during lunch time to read.. sad.gif

laugh.gif right, just allocate more time per reading session and it's done... the slow and steady way doh.gif

most of the books i read are more technical based. i've heard a lot saying that for reading on such material, speed reading is less effective. But it will definitely come in handy when skimming through the whole content at first go and get a rough idea.
