QUOTE(6UE5T @ Dec 26 2016, 08:30 PM) Well if can afford big cars should be able and willing to afford good tires too! I seen way too many people driving big expensive cars, using big rims (18 or above) but yet settling for some cheapo tires like this ATR or even worse some unknown China brand crap tires, quite an irony. Now F1D5 is a good tire! I had used it before too, just a bit more prone to chipping like PS3 if driven more aggressively, but overall performance is great. You should've stayed with that instead of the ATR. i dont think @allenultra is referring to f1d5 bro. Its dunlop d05. Btw, agree to you that f1d5 indeed is a good tyre.

QUOTE(6UE5T @ Dec 27 2016, 12:29 PM) In general yes. High tread wear rating means the tire uses more durable harder compound which usually has less grip. Softer compound will give more grip but then would not last as long, so that's the trade off. Just like in racing, when they use soft tires they can get faster lap times but then they cannot do as many laps as harder tires. So that's why if you look at low-mid performance range tires, they usually focus on durability and you can see most of them have tread wear rating 400 or above. Now if you look at UHP/max performance tires, then you see most of the tread wear are ranging between 200-340. Then after that you got the extreme which are usually just around 200 or lower. IMHO those ranging around 300 is the best balance of performance and durability coz they already can give excellent grip and can last long enough to around 40-60k km. Longer than that IMHO is useless as the tire is also already getting hardened even though the treads still rather thick. Hard durable tires only may be beneficial if you drive very long mileage like taxi drivers. Yes he did coz he mentioned specifically "Goodyear f1d5" in his post above as the best tire he as ever used so far. Cannot be Dunlop mistaken typo for Goodyear mah, too different what! He had since downgraded to D05 then maybe now the ATR Sport, that's what I understood from his sentences above. yea ka? didnt read from the start. my mistake. hahah. wanted to try f1d5 long ago too. but now, a lot competitors. susah to pick one. haha.
